MS says untrue so far but it looks like its gonna be this way, CEOs of various companies making xbox games are confirming it. I want an Xbox but if we have to wait as long as a year how good will it really be? By then PS2 will be the "cheap" console with a whack of games for the "poor" people, and gamecube will have a strong foothold.

Is it just me, or does it seem like Xbox is slipping...
I wouldn't be extremely shocked if it was totally abandoned at this point.

Yes its a PS2 site, but IGN also hosts a major Xbox site as well. I also don't believe they're making it totally up :)

Another Another

I can't say its surprising as the vid card they'll be using is so kickass to deliver it in mass quantities for such a low price seemed like a supreme effort.

Just as I figured. They must have put the final NV2A in the box along with a 733Mhz CPU, sound card, memory, hard drive, network interface, etc and the thing melted. I betcha it's heat problems.

Hope it wont be that late. I doubt it'll take another year to come out (spring 2002??? Happy puppy is wacked!).

I was heavily behind the Xbox, but for some reason I think the Gamecube is going to end up completley blowing everything away, graphic and gameplay wise. I don't know why, but its just a gut feeling I have...

Strange...that a 250MHz GPU based on a chip that's almost on store shelves wouldn't be ready in 6 months. If there is a delay, I don't think it will be hardware-related at all. I think developers have been slow to familiarize themselves with the Xbox dev kits and haven't exploited their full potential yet. We're talking about pixel shaders, vertex shaders, programmable T&L, programmable sound environments, and a whole slew of other things that console developers simply aren't ready for. Also, Microsoft is committed to forcing developers to fully exploit the Xbox in their titles--they will not settle for ports of games from other platforms. If push comes to shove, I think MS should delay the console so that developers can have more time readying some kickass launch titles. Anything taking full advantage of the Xbox will still be light years ahead of even 2nd or 3rd generation PS2 games.

Well if they do decide to cancel it somewhere down the road, all I can say is that they had damn better well bring Halo to the PC.

I really don't think that a video card's ability to kick ass will have anything to do with manufacturing it. :)
