Xbox controller

My friend (codename: Bob) is/was at E3, and sending me some interesting tidbits via Email. These two comments I found interesting:

"I went to the Xbox booth and started whispering in peoples ears the idea
that the Xbox controllers sucked just to see what they would say; the
response? 100% agreement! The reason is that the four A,B,Y,X buttons are
way to close to each other and the White and Black ones(I can't remember
thier names) were so far out of the way that they were useless."

...

"The Cube controller is a wonder to behold! Miyamoto's ideas of the
different shaped buttons so you could feel and not look really works! The
clicks on the L and R buttons made me think, "Duh! why didn't anyone else
think of that. oh that's right Sony spent jack on researching for their new
controller and as far as I can tell so did M$."

May I? 😉

BTW I think you are totally right. To this day I think the PS2 controller is crap, and the Xbox looks pretty much like a DC ripoff, but is even worse. The GC controller looks unique, the click seems like a great idea, but we'll see how it plays when GC is out.

<< Um, the PS2 controller is a PS1 Dual Shock Controller in black. What research did they do on it? >>

Last I checked, PS1 controllers do not have pressure sensitive buttons.

Why would Sony have to spend research on their PS2 controller? The PS1 controller was already great and the PS2 is just a good improvement. Now if only they would hide those holes for the screws since they dig into your skin..

Welp, (codename: Bob) is an avid console gamer, so I definitely trust his opinion on such matters as controller design.

we will see but a) I'm getting an XBOX anyway b) Worst comes to worst is that you buy a replacement from a third party company ..

Last I checked, the pressure sensitive buttons were worthless.

No, but i've played it a bit, and its just annoying. Nothing could replace actual triggers in a racing game.

My opinion on the controllers since ive been at E3 for the past 3 days are this:

PS2 - Same as PS1 and has been comfortable for me to use. No problems at all with it.

Xbox - Surprisingly comfortable. The buttons are a little close together but overall i like it.

Gamecube - Also surprisingly comfortable. Looking at it you dont think about it much but it is very comfortable to hold and use.

"My friend code named: bob" lol... battery operated buddy?

As to the controller.. he didn't whisper in my ear. It's extremely comfy.

The cube's was nice also.

The Xbox controller is the size of a dinnerplate. I guess that's to go along with the Xbox, which is the size of a dinnertable.

was at E3 today, and xbox controller is heavy and big and the four buttons are way to close together. also, while playing tony hawk 3 i noticed that i didnt like the rumbling, and i dont know if there was an option to turn off the rumbling on the controller or not, i doubt it though. it would suck to have to go to game menu every time to turn rumbling on/off. game cube had the nicest controller. suprisingly comfortable and the button layouts were just perfect.

I never understood why ppl complained about the size of the PS controller being to small. I have huge hands and i love the PS controller over any other one ive ever tried.
