Xbox Controller S vs. 360 controller

I got Race Driver 3 but found it to freeze up due to my Act-labs wheel. Further investigation showed it as a common problem with most FF wheels but there was a workaround.

However before finding this workaround I went and bought a 360 controller to use. But after getting the wheel to work fine I'm not sure if I want to keep the 360 controller (I didn't even open it).

I don't play that many games that would use a controller, with the only ones being racing games whcih I have a wheel for anyway. However some racing games are better or easier with a controller (mostly arcadish ones). I have a cheap PS2-style gamepad but for racing games the triggers are almost a must-have.

So... I could keep the 360 controller, return it for $$, or exchange it for $$ and a regular Controller S. I already have a Xbox to PC adapter for the controller S.

I read that force feedback doesn't work on the PC with the 360 controller. What kind of crap is that? I guess it wont work till the new DirectX (Vista I'm thinking!). So that kinda makes me want to return it.

Other than the reposition of the black and white buttons to the shoulder whcih is a big plus, does the 360 offer any other advantages over the controller S when it comes to PC use? And advantages that warrant the $15-20 it costs more than the old Xbox controller? I do like that its a little smaller since I have small hands, but I'm not sure if its worht the cash, especially since FF doesn't work (someone confirm this) but it does on the Controller S.

360 gamepad is the best controller hands down even on PC I've ever owned..
got 2 for my 360 and 1 for my PC love it

But does the force feedback work in all games? Someone confirmed in my RD3 thread that the controller S FF works in Race Driver 3, but it'd be a pity if the 360 didn't.

Seems MS fvcked it up pretty bad considering you need to do at least as much work to get it working right for the supposed "PC compatible" 360 controller yet the old Xbox controller S works very easily with a simple adapter and XBCD.

Does it work okay with older games like zSNES?

Why not use the controller S and save $40? I've never used the xbox 360 controller on the pc but the controller S works perfectly. Play MegaMan X-8 with it. You'll feel the rumble =)

Well I don't actually own a controller S. I bought the adapter since my roommate has a Xbox and controllers that I would borrow when needed. But I no longer live there so I have nothing for the adapter.

Damn its tempting to open up this 360 controller sitting by me the whole time, but I may want to return it still.

Can anyone confirm if the rumble works in PC games with the 360 controller or not??

Why do you want rumble anyway? When you get in an accident in real life, does it make your hands vibrate like a cell phone? Rumble is even more of a gimmick than real force feedback.

I suppose its not a big deal... does that mean it doesn't work?? That just kinda bothers me such a simple feature doesnt work at all.
