Xbox at Circuit City plus gift card

I received a 10% gift card offer in the mail from Circuit City. When I called yesterday, they were out of Xbox and did not know when they would be getting more in. I went to B&M today and they had a fresh supply. I used gift card and was able to buy Xbox for $299.99 and get a $30 gift card good on my next purchase.

Just to clarify for people, this is a coupon sent out that let's you get 10% back in giftcard form on ANY purchase over $200 (not just XBOX).

let's say you buy 30 PS2, $300 each => $9,000. You get $900 back. Sell them back on Ebay for $290 shipped each (trust me, u'll be able to sell it at $290) => $8700.
-$9000 + $8700 + $900 => $600

I think you must have a Circuit City card to receive those special offers (or customers with total purchase >= some amount of money, maybe)

well it so happens i have a large wad of ca$h just laying about
ebay charges fee's to sell their items. and not just 1 fee either.
and the gc is not the same as ca$h since it must be used at their place of business.
so add the tax for whatever you purchase with this gc to more out of pocket expenses

Looks like someone's been taking G. Dummy's "fuzzy math" classes again.

Lest we all forget about sales tax (in most states), and that shipping PS2's to buyers is not cheap.

Shipping PS2 wouldn't be that expensive because it's quite light (Xbox is a little bit heavy though). (It's like 7-8 bucks by Fedex Ground).
And FYI, a lot of people are buying PS2 on Ebay for $285 + $5-$10 shipping.
However, it's not worth it because it's a GC. It's not cash. You are tied to future purchases at CC

It says right on the back of the mailer that the max value of this offer is $99.00 per 10% back holiday card. So your "GC benefit" spending range is from $200 (min purchase required to te a GC) and $990.00 (The most that a 10 GC will. There are also a LOT of exclusions including all SONY XBR, "super low price models" and previous purchases.

Unless you live in a state that doesn't charge sales tax, you'll be losing money each time you sell one. I live in Texas and sales tax is ~8% for me. Here's your math.

-$324 = PS2 + 8% sales tax
+$30 -- $30 Circuit City GC

+$290 -- PS2 Sold on eBay
------------------------------------
-$4
-$8 -- shipping on PS2
------------------------------------
-$12
-$9.87 -- eBay fees
------------------------------------
