A 57" widescreen Sony HDTV is being delivered to my parents' house as we speak... I just need to know if the XBOX High Definition AV pack would be all I need to hook up to this thing. I'm reading the HD AV pack has analog audio output. Will this still mean the best available audio output possible with this setup? Thx.

It has analog and optical audio out.
Also you need some component video cables as well to take advantage of the high resolution.

After you hook it up, play Halo. It must be seen to be believed.

It also supports Dolby Digital out using a Toslink optical cable (sold separately) if you have a receiver with a Digital optical input.

See the BIG LIST - Xbox deals thread over in AT Hot Deals for a killer price on both the High-Def Pack ($9.99 at Target, YMMV) & optical cables.
[/shameless plug]

FYI: Component video cables ARE included with the High-Def pack, along with analog audio cables.

the HD pack does indeed come with component cables. They're pretty poor, but they work.

Also no xbox games in HD yet.

OK, so it does come with it's own cables... how are they poor? How could they be better? I want the best experience, but price is also a factor. I don't want to be blowing $50 just to get all this higher quality.

btw, the HDTV i played on was the Pioneer Elite 60" i believe.

that's sorta funny because my 19" monitor has a higher resolution than HDTVs......

Z-560s > Bose Lifestylye 35

Consoles are the suck.

I have the 57 inch Sony that your parents are getting, and I have it connected with my own component cables and a cheapo optical cable.

The quality is VERY nice. I would highly recommend it.

Halo, is incredible. Especially late at night when the room is pitch black and the 5.1 sound is ripping. ;)

Of course, then you're playing games on a 19" monitor. If you're not talking LCD, you're probably talking about a 18" viewable diagonal.

I'm primarily a PC gamer, but to dismiss consoles out of hand means you're missing out on a lot of excellent titles, regardless of resolution.

Thanks for the insight Fusion.

I used to think that way too, now I play mostly consoles. sit back drink a beer and crank a video game in a top notch home theater on a huge screen. hard to beat.

Can't wait for high definition games from the x-box.

there's a hack out to make the xbox output dvd movies (and games) in progressive mode.
