Xbox 360 won't connect to media center pc

Just reinstalled media center on my PC, now the 360 won't connect to it.

I have the 9 digit code from the 360, and I went and downloaded the software from xbox.com/pcsetup, but when I install it it goes through and says that it is finished and the 360 is authorized, but it never asks me for the code. What am I missing?

Its say my software version is 5.1.2700.2180, which according to a website I found, is the original 2005 version of MCE, but does not include rollup 2. Yet windows update does not list this in the available updates.

I tried that it gives me an error saying the update can only be installed on windows media center edition 2005.

As I said my software version seems to be the original version of 2005, yet under system properties it says I have MCE 2002 SP2. I have had this setup working before, so I know I haave 2005.

just checking but this MC 2005 was not off of usenet or torrents was it ?

a online friend of mine had this exact issue and it sounds like what he ran into

He got a OEM of 2005 and the update and it worked perfect!

Now the xbox needs to play avi files as he has to converted everything to play them on the TV. Rumor is they are going to update the 360 for avi support

You might have to do a full reinstall if the Update does not make it work
Someone else surely has better advice than that!

I know when it works it's a great tool and I am just waiting for the avi support as that's about all I have stored even though wmv is a much smaller file and especially to mpeg. Mpeg is a HD eater the size is so extreme

Dang, I just did a reinstall, and I was setting it up so I would never have to do another reinstall, this blows. I will keep looking for a while before I take that route. Thanks for the help though. Oh and what software version does your MCE and system properties report?
