Xbox 360 Woes

Months ago my Xbox 360 decided it didn't want to play any more games. The console DVD drive stopped working so while the console was on and operated it would not play any games/media that was in the DVD drive. The game would go in and then nothing happened as if there was no game in there at all.

Today I decided to open it up and see if I could fix the DVD drive myself (warranty is expired anyway and have ZERO interest paying $100 to fix their shitty console). So I opened it up and disassembled the DVD drive until I got to the motor. I thought this was the problem since I could not hear any spinning of the DVD once it was inside. I used WD-40 on the inside of the magnet right where it spins and then put it all back together.

I turned it on and put a game on and it actually read it! Only problem is that I got the message "In order to play this Xbox 360 game you must put it in an Xbox 360 console." Wonderful...My own Xbox is telling me to put the game in an Xbox in order to play. I realized this was because it was trying to play the game as a DVD and not an Xbox 360 game. Well anyway I restarted the console and it worked this time! I loaded a saved game and played around for 5 minutes. I then turned the console off and tried another game only to get the same god damn problem that I had started with. The DVD drive will not even recognize that there is a game in it.

So I ask now if anyone has had this problem before. I have/had no intentions of sending it to Microsoft. I would rather just sell all my games/controllers/HD/etc. at this point. I could even get $30 for the broken console on Ebay since I guess some sell it for scrap parts. This whole thing just kind of pisses me off though.

So get replacement DVD drive? Or is that near impossible like the proprietary 360 HD.

I'll give you $30 for it. PM me.

BTW, using WD-40 was not a good idea.

Yeah, you have to copy the old drive's code or firmware to the new one in order to get it to work. You'll end up spending probably $70 on finding a drive that'll work for you, and then the hassle of trying to get it to work. The PS3 is the same way I believe. Of course, the 360 has worse reliability, even considering the PS3 has a Blu-Ray drive.

$35?

$40!

Shit man it's broken... don't drive the price up too high, he might want extra for shipping. ;)

I'll happily liberate a 360 from an unhappy owner. $150 for a functional 360 (with fixed DVD drive) or ~$50 for UPnP media player, either way it's a kick-ass deal.

Get a replacement drive and just replace the PCB with your old drive's.

If you want to sell it, you may get more parting it out or fixing it and then selling it.
