Xbox 360 without hard drive?

Long story short, but I'm considering buying a 2nd Xbox 360 for my son's room. Our existing one has a hard disk.

What do we lose by buying one without a hard disk? I realize there will be less capacity for downloading demos, trailers, etc... but what else?

Netflix still OK?
Games and small downloadable content/updates/etc. OK?
Still work as a Media Center Extender?

Possibly noise. Some of the DVD drives MS uses are still quite loud, and they run all the time you're playing if you can't install the game to the HD.

That could be a benefit if you want to make sure he isn't gaming late at night 🙂

One more question... will he be able to seamlessly move between consoles without issue? Will his profile, achievements, whatever, be available on both consoles?

Yeah, just get a USB thumb drive and he can move between the two without a problem. That's what I do with my kids.

Also, if you are concerned about the hard drive, you can get a used 20GB, 60GB or 120GB Xbox 360 HDD pretty cheap. You'll just have to take it out of the old housing to slide it in one of the new 360 slims.

Halo: Reach in co-op mode is the only game really affected by the lack of a hard drive.

I saw a video on moving an old Xbox hard drive to a slim... it concerned me that there was no enclosure, because the drive seemed real loose in there. Is that an issue? Does the trapdoor hold the drive in sufficiently? I also saw you could get an enclosure for like $8...

I can't view any of my .avi media on my Xbox without a hard drive. Extremely irritating having two Xboxes and only one hard drive.
