XBox 360 Wireless controller for PC does not work

i have windows 7 x64.

i bought the XBox 360 Wireless Receiver and gamepad. Reciever lights green, gamepad flashes green. installed driver from here (is this right software?) http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/d...type=Gaming&name=JR9-00001&os=Win7_64&lang=en

I click on both, the signal button to detect each other but gamepad will not find the reciever or something. my device manager shows "unkown device" however it does show xbox 360 wireless controller via plug and play kit.

but shows nothing when i go to game controllers in Control Panel, usually it would show whatever gamepad i have connected.
I even tried holding the wireless reciever right next to the gamepad and click the buttons but gamepad never finds it and goes back to flashing green.

waht do i do? is this software i downloaded not the right driver?

So you're saying that you can't get the gamepad to sync with the receiver? Like, does the top left quadrant of the pad light up solid green?

Also, wasn't aware that you needed any special drivers. The 360 gamepads have been plug and play since Vista.

yes, it wont sync. no it needs drivers. its available from WU or seperatly. otherwise its not recognized. now maybe the wired ones are recognized, but not the wireless but Windows Update will show the driver as an optional.

OK, well that's weird, cause mine doesn't need any. Maybe I have it set to auto-install from WU or something.

Anyway, if it won't sync, I would say that it is not a driver issue. Does the controller work with a 360 (assuming you have one)?
