This is how my network is setup:

Cable Modem -> D-Link DI-604(with 3 computers wired in) -> Linksys WRT54GS Wireless Router

---------------------

So, I bought the Xbox360 wireless adapter and I have a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router. It says on the Xbox360 site that their wireless adapter does support the WRT54GS router. So here is my problem:

Using the Xbox360 wireless adapter, I try to establish a connection to Xbox Live. It fails and asks to do a connection test.

I do the test and It fails on the MTU test. I then log into the router and switch MTU from AUTO to 1500.

I run the connection test again on the 360 and it passes the MTU and ICMP tests, but fails to connect to Xbox Live. So I try the test again. It fails on the MTU. So, I go back to the router and change the MTU back to AUTO. It then passes the MTU and ICMP and fails to connect to Xbox Live.

Everytime I change settings [on anything] on the WRT54GS router, the Xbox360 connection test will pass the MTU test, but only on the first attempt and won't connect to Xbox Live.

I then try using an ethernet cable. I plug it into my Xbox and into the WRT54GS router. I get the same problem. Although, plugging a computer into it, you can use the internet no problem.

BUT, if I connect the ethernet cable to the D-Link router that's connected directly to my cable modem, I get on Xbox Live as soon as I power up the console.

Is there something I need to do with the configuration of the Linksys WRT54GS router?

Man you are a lifesaver! I had this EXACT same problem. I tried everything. I even called Microsoft (they wanted me to ship them my XBOX because they said it was a hardware problem!) and Comcast (who were helpful but didn't solve the issue.)

Until I saw your post I was at my wits end. I updated my firmware and it worked perfectly. Thanks for posting your solution!
