Xbox 360 - Window Media Center

Hey Guys,

One of my reason as to why I got my xbox was that I'd be able to take my movies and shows that I have on my PC and watch them on the xbox. It turns out that you can only do this is you have windows media center... Is there some kind of way where I can watch my shows/movies from XP pro to the xbox? Or am I just going to have to go to new egg and buy Media Center for $130? Is it worth it? I've spent all this money so far... I was just wanting to know how the movie playing works... Espical if you have movies or shows that use codec decorders to play...will these still play on xbox too?

this is why im not in a hurry for the 360...my first gen xbox can connect to any samba network and play movies using xbmc

hey crizzar thanks for the infor, but where did you find that out at? or where can I found out more info on the typs of things it can play?

And it makes sense in a way, would probably be some licensing issues even though most have free licenses to be bundled in with the 360... like it or not, those are competitors to wmv format

as far as media is concerned, the first gen xbox+modchip+xbmc is far superior to the 360...at least as far as I am concerned...no DRM and I can play nearly any format

I have seen an application linked somewhere on the net already that will allow you to stream video from any WinXP SP2 box. I can't for the life of me remember where or what it was called, but it was just yesterday. Try googling or perhaps somewhere like xbox-scene.

Personally I have an MCE PC already, just no xbox 360.... yet 🙂

I'm curious about MCE-360 interactivity as well. It would be nice to have a simple UI to access all of my media and such.

From the 360 all you have to do is link to your MCE PC. You get the exact same interface as you would on the MCE. You can stream any video, picture, music etc that your MCE can do.

However, if XP machines only allow music and picture sharing.
