Xbox 360 vs Toshiba HD-A2

I am looking at getting an HD DVD player.
My 50" Panny does 720p/1080i.
Would the Xbox look as good as the HD-A2?

I don't play many console games but it might be nice to have the option. But, I prefer picture quality over convenience.

Update 11/25/07

ARRRGGHHH!!

Decided to wait and get an HD A3. Had trouble ordering it BF, site was up and down most of the day.
Sent an email to customer support and the next day they said to order it and they would adjust the price to $169 via my account.
I ordered it at $199 and sent them the order number.
Went to Monoprice and ordered the cables.
The next day, Sears cancels my order. I call customer support and they say the price is now $299. I argue with the guy and tell him they can't do that. He tells me it doesn't matter what the price is because they are going to honor it at $169. I tell him OK and to replace the order. It won't go through because they are now out of stock and they don't know when they will have more.
So as it stands, no HD A3 for me.

Shouldn't be any real difference in picture quality. Some people complain the HD-A2 takes too long to load a disc up, but its smaller and quieter than the Xbox + HD-DVD Drive

I prefer to have a standalone player but that's just me. Picture quality should be the same.

The HD-A2 is also an amazing upconverter. I used to play my regular DVDs through my computer but now I just use the HD-A2.

Is the A2 a better upconverter for regular DVD's than the oppo 981?

Do you use your PS2 as a DVD player? Get the Toshiba.

If you are talking to me, no.
I did buy a remote with the intention of using it as one but I never did.

People put the A2 just below or at par to the Oppo players. The XA2 is supposedly the best upconverter there is.

That is so good to know, I finally got mine in yesterday. I am making myself wait till my two HDMI cables get in before I play it. I cant wait!

the add-on drive itself is pretty loud (my add-on is about 12 feet from where I set and you can definitely hear it during dialouge/non-action scenes)...

I am keeping it though (got it on the amazon deal for $179 shipped w/ 4 movies instantly (KK in the box) plus 5 via mail in rebate)...

The picture quality is amazing though...

Yep, spot on.

You can really hear it during the quieter scenes.
The add on is nice, but with the prices being so close now I would go with a stand alone.

I was amazed that the quality of the upconvertor. My jaw hit the floor while was watching Babel. I have the OPPO 970 and the HD-A2; IMHO the A2 upconverts MUCH better than the 970. I keep the 970 around because it can play divx files. Oh, and i watched both over HDMI
