Will the 7800 gtx compare to the graphics of the xbox 360, because I'm waiting for Oblivion to come out, and I'm debatin buying a 7800 gtx, I won't buy the card if the xbox 360 is going to look better than the 7800 gtx.

Well, since the xbox chip IS the 7800gtx, I would say the xbox would only be slightly better, as it has optomization advantages.

I'm looking forward to that game too. Hopefully they've fixed the annoying area load pauses from TES: Morrowind.

I kind of feel like the game engine for Morrowind was a bit unoptomized though. It's more than two or three years old, but that game still gets more jerky than any recent game I've played. It's not so much a matter of consistently bad framerates, but more like it'll move smoothly for the most part, but there'll be intermittant pauses, very brief, but enough to be noticeable. Hopefully they've fixed this. If Far Cry can look that good and still run smoothly, then BethSoft has no excuses.

As for Oblivion, I'm probably just going to get the PC version. Not sure that I'd upgrade to a 7800GTX for it though. Guess we'll see how it runs.

I'm pretty sure they didn't fix the load pauses, cause they were talking about how there still cell's for each house or door you go thru, anyway, I thought xbox signed a deal with ATI for it's graphics card not NVidia ?

I think you should go with pc 7800gtx. Ive always liked to use my keyboard and mouse more than a controller witih a joystick.

edit: my little bro is saving for the xbox 360 so i will see how it is.

exactly, except from that minor thing that it's ATI's r500 working in the XBOX 360.

The reason I like consoles is because of optimization. The games have to run on the system. In today's PC gaming world developers aren't doing much in the way of optimization, everyone is just throwing more hardware at the problem.

The thing I don't like about the Xbox 360 is the different packages. Especially the ones with or without hard drives. I just hope that game developers don't make games that require you to have the drive in order to play.

The consoles are optomized for games, but pc's have more hardware for gaming, IE. More Ram. I think it evens out. Bring it to my attention if I'm mistaken though.

Thinsgs like Content updates, patches, addons, and modstend to be missing from the console side. So be sure to consider that prior to making your decision. Generally the bugs are fewwer in the console versions upon initial release, however, they can be fixed after the fact on the PC version. Not sure about that with consoles.

That is changing now that consoles have hard drives and internet access. It only took them almost 20 years, but they finally got around to it.

I'm a PC gamer, probably always will be, given that console games cater to people with short attention spans. But the fact is, console game sales dwarf PC game sales by a substantion margin.

PC games tend to be of a higher quality, IMO, as anyone can make a PC game. If you want to, you can make your own game on the PC. Don't even have to write your own engine as their are plenty available entirely for free, Q3 source code just went public not too long ago.

If you want to make a PS2/Xbox/PS3/Xbox360 game, be ready to fork out LARGE amounts of cash to Sony and Microsoft.

LOL, that just reminded me of the "jumping-through-ceilings" and the subsequent "blue fog of death" bugs that plagued the early gold releases of Morrowind. I wonder if the XBox versions has those bugs too. It's not something you'd think would be due to hardware issues.

Overall, I expect the xbox 360's graphics to be superior to whatever PC's can produce for at least 6 months to a year. Of course, a big part of this has to do with software developers being able to write directly for the hardware, instead of through translation API's and drivers.

When the Xbox and PS2 game out, the situation was similar - Their games/graphics were far superior to anything the tyipcal gaming PCs had at the time.

But of course, people who are into a lot of gaming will eventually be getting an xbox360, ps3, and a new PC graphics card :)
