I know this was touched upon a few times on this board before, but I don't see my particular question answered in any of those threads, and I really didn't want to bring back old threads.

I have a 19" Dell CRT monitor that came with my Dell Dimension 3000 PC last year.

I am pretty sure it is a VGA monitor, because it is connected to my PC via something very simillar to a VGA input.

I want to hold off on getting a nice, big HDTV for a little while longer but don't want to deal with playing 360 games on a plain ol' 22" inch old panasonic TV that doesn't even have S-video.

I heard if you use the first party VGA adapter and hook it up to your PC it will give you near-HD quality...This sounds like a great alternative untill I can afford my HDTV...

Problem is, my monitor doesn't actually have a VGA input on it...It has a built0in wire that is built in to the monitor, and on the other end it plugs into my PV via it's VGA port...

So, my question is...is there anyway to run the 360 on this monitor? Maybe an adapter or something I can buy?

Also, how would I go about audio? I have a sound blaster surround sound audio card...

Thanks in advance for your help guys!

Buy a new monitor I'd say...you could probably find adapters and what not to make this work, but they'd cost a ton of money. (actually, check how the xbox 360 vga cable hooks up, maybe it's a box that you can plug the end of your vga cable into?)

You're going to need this here which gives you VGA output from the Xbox360. I'm not sure if that cable is going to female or male... your monitor has male so I assume it would be female. In the odd chance t hat it's male cable you'll need a gender changer like this here

Lots of monitors have the VGA cable attached, that isn't any reason to buy a new one. For all we know the VGA cable for the 360 will be made to work with such monitors, if not then you can get a female-to-female adapter for about $5.

Sounds like you just need a simple adapter like this one? Should work if your monitor is using a VGA cable.

As for audio all you need is a mini plug to female RCA adapter like shown here. just plug xbox audio wires into the rca ends and the mini headphone jack end goes into your soundcards Line Input port. then just use the volume mixer in windows to adjust line input volume, its usualy muted by default.

Just keep in mind playing 720p / 1080i games on that monitor will have black bars on top and bottom due to its 4:3 aspect.

The RCAs are only good for analog sound, for degital surround sound you'd need to use S/PDIF.

Will the VGA cable from the xbox output VGA resolutions, or 1280x720? I know my LCD monitor has a max res of 1280x1024, but will not support 1280x720. Sure, it'll work if I use a video card which knows how to border the image, but the actual drive circuitry of the monitor only supports a limited number of resolutions, none of them 1280x720. I've tried this with a component to vga transcoder, 720p just won't display, plus it's not listed as a supported resolution anyway.
