I'm using a VGA adapter with my Xbox 360 to hook it up to my monitor. Under my monitor there are two plugs for video input, one is DVI and the other is VGA. At the moment, my computer is plugged in via DVI, and my 360 via VGA.

Problem is, when I have my computer on, even if I turn on the 360 the monitor only displays the computer video input. I have to turn off my computer for my monitor to display the 360 Video input.

Is there any sort of a switch so they can both be on and I can press a button to switch between them?

thanks

What brand and model is the monitor? Personally my monitor has an internal switch between VGA and DVI.

My monitor is similar to this. There's a setting that lets me switch, so both can be on.

So ya, depending on your monitor, you might already have some sort of switch or setting that you can access to just switch from computer to the 360 while both are on.

I think that's similar to my friends monitor. Isn't there an option in the Menu that allows you to switch from "digital" to "analog"? I think that might be your solution.

Have you explored the monitor menu? Should be a heading for connectivity.

If it has more than 1 input, the designers, hopefully, decided to build in a switch. When I encountered my first 2 CPUs into 1 monitor I was lost too:).

I have a Viewsonic with 5 buttons: 1,2,Up,Down, and Power. A simple press of the 2 button switches between inputs for me.

I have the same setup, but i simply set my power options (right click desktop>properties>screen saver) to turn my monitor off in 1 minute. Some may not like the wait, just turn your xbox on after you set the power settings so you're not losing any time. Moving the mouse once the monitor is showing the video from the xbox will not revert it back to the computer.

similar to zzzguy, i turn off the signal to the monitor from the computer. easy way though:

1. download http://www.grc.com/wizmo/wizmo.htm
2. put it anywhere.
3. create a shortcut to that file "C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\My Documents\wizmo.exe" quiet autoblank=1 monoff

double click the shortcut and your monitor will no longer get a signal from your computer. wizmo has many more options to play with.
