Been eyeing an Xbox 360 since I sold my last one and regretted it, now that I have a new high def tv... I want one back...

so the question is.

Get the new elite one that comes out this sunday for $479.99 and use HDMI (plus it has a 120gb hard drive)

or

Stock premium xbox 360 via VGA? Component? (roughly $325-$350 used)

whats the visual quality difference between HDMI and VGA for the 360?

It's what, 5 cables for component (three video cables and right and left audio cables) vs. 1 for HDMI? If you have an open port, go for it. Less cable clutter FTW.

definitely get the elite. 120GB hard drive and hdmi for 80 bucks more is worth it (i know it techinically/really isnt, but whatever).

i dont understand all the rave about the elite. what exactly does the HDMI do that the premium cables dont? and why is there a need for a 120 gb drive?

He's not talking about component vs. HDMI...he's talking VGA. That's 2 cables...one for the VGA, one for the sound.

One of the poll options/questions was about component, in addition to HDMI or VGA

Ah. I focused in on the last question in his post.

I just hooked up the new lcd and saw my first hd 1080i show...david letterman.. I am utterly stunned at how good this looks!

I think I have convinced myself that I need the Elite..or 1337 for the rest of us!

I wouldn't get an elite because $480 is too much for a console when all it really offers is 100gb more, when 20gb is more than enough. The partition I think I can use on the 20gb drive is like 13gb, and I always have 11-12gb free.

The difference between HDMI/Component probably won't even be noticeable unless you do a side by side.

Yup, it's actually highly unlikely that you would notice any difference between component and HDMI:

Well, you can upconvert with the HDMI but I think you can do that with the vga as well. Not sure why, as VGA is analog, as is component... must be something else...

HDMI only for less cable clutter and be able to do 1080p if your TV can support it.

But I wouldn't buy the elite unless you really need the 120 gigs.

Unless microsoft just likes to throw away money HDMI will come to the premium and core versions. It would be stupid to create a whole new line for one sku. when they can make it for 3 skus with packaging being the only difference.

Elite is a waste of money IMO.

VGA and component will do 1080p.

If you really wanna get your socks knocked off, buy the old premium and spend the extra money towards the HD-DVD player.

But...but..but, MS said HDMI is unnecessary!

EDIT: I would get the premium and use the difference for games. Not a fan of Elite.

I would go with the Premium and use the extra money towards the HD DVD player, or games.

Except that component cabling (Coaxial) is better suited to long runs than hdmi is. Component will degrade after 50 ft, hdmi stands a good chance of cutting out entirely.

hrm.. tending to lean towards the premium old one now..

hard decision.. I want the 120gb, but the hd dvd and 360 for the same price is hard to beat!

can someone answer me a question?

does the premium upconvert to 1080i? which cable is needed for that?

and does the elite upconvert with HDMI?
