The new Xbox device, while allowing for extensive gaming capability, will be positioned as an entertainment hub that includes gaming and extensive wireless networking capability as well as 1080p playback. There is also talk of it including a dual HD TV tuner and EPG capability and a docking port for an MP3 player. For Toshiba, the device is critical if it is to be successful in beating Sony and the Blu-ray promoters.

Eleventy-billionth time this rumor has come up. I'll wait for official word from MS.

wonder if this one will include the lovely RRoD feature as well.

i'm getting really sick of seeing these different versions of consoles out there.

i remember the days when i went to my friends house to play games and it was guaranteed he had the same exact system as me.

I believe it if by dual HDTV tuner they're referring to the IPTV tuner.

The IPTV is supposed to be all done in software. No additional hardware required.

Meh, reminds me of Victor making Mega-something out of Mega Drive (Sega Genesis) in Japan about 15 years ago. It was Genesis + Mega-CD + CD player. It was touted as media center back then.

I don't know what the big deal is, since they can't use HD-DVD for games anyways. I read somewhere it will have a Toshiba label.

Actually, reminds me of the super-duper media PS2 that Sony tried to sell in Japan a couple of years back. It bombed.

Sounds like they're trying to combine a 360 w/ a MC PC. You're probably still going to be best off using the extender functionality. Speaking of which, it's absolutely awesome to have. After being used to using the TV guide channel anytime I wanted to know what was going on, the guide/DVR functionality is just great. Not to mention how easy it is to add extra storage space if I need. All I need now is a couple more tuners and a 500gig HDD or two.

If this came out next year before the holidays, and was priced at the current Premium or Elite price, I'd probably bite on it, mainly for the HD-DVD portion. I really wish there was a unified format though - I'm really dreading making an investment towards BR or HD as I don't want to have a library of outdated titles in another few years if a side finally wins.

Save all that crap, and just give me Divx+ decoding. I am effing tired of having to transcode everything.

You know we are getting pretty close to about the time that MS should be releasing Fall update. It has been oddly quiet on that front.

Maybe they'll realize I'm not a child and give me access to Messenger finally.

Looks like it was pretty expensive: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSX_(DVR)

Rumour Denied

Toshiba says no to new Xbox 360 HD DVD rumour

As with every ?Microsoft to add HD DVD to 360? rumour ? currently at about one a month ? Microsoft is dismissing the claims. But so is Toshiba.

A spokesperson for Tosh told Stuff.tv: ?It?s got nothing to do with us. But we know Microsoft doesn?t want to include the HD DVD drive so as not to limit the user?s experience.?

Microsoft pulled a fast one on Sony by launching its Xbox 360 without a built-in HD DVD player and keeping costs down. Since then, the PS3?s Blu-ray support has seen the format take a slim lead in the HD disc showdown.

Weren't there reports that its going to have a big change to the marketplace, as in they're going to add music and a bunch of other stuff? I wonder if that has anything to do with the Zune Marketplace update that should happen about Nov 10th I believe.

I wish they would focus more on a GAME console than adding 50 other things and bumping up the price. I would prefer to get a better CPU and GPU that would actually affect games than get a TV tuner in my console.

We're finally getting to the point where we can truly have one device that can act as a media hub. I'm hoping Microsoft goes ahead with this, it's good for all of us.

I wonder how much this will cost. Microsoft likes to charge a hefty price for extras, so I'm assuming all of these add-ons will make it quite expensive.

Also, do a Google search on the author of the article posted in the OP....David Richards. He basically doesn't have much in the way of credibility.

I've had one of these devices for years. It's call an HTPC.
