xbox 360 slim power supply noise

I just got a 360 slim from amazon, and the power supply is high pitched, and noisey...the 360 is nearly dead quiet, what gives?!

Is this just a bad brick, or is this normal for all of the slims? My old 360 never had a noise coming from the power supply.

My reach bundle brick is silent (heh was the first thing I checked). My second 360 had a similar brick to what you describe so I exchanged it.

hrmmm, can you swap bricks with Amazon, or just whole consoles? Or will MS do it?

Ms probably will. I had amazon do it since it was a new console and they paid for ups to pick it up and all that.

My power brick is silent. Mine is a regular "Elite" Slim (250GB) manufactured May 25. The entire system is dead quiet, especially compared to my old 120GB elite (Jasper).

I've always said this...always buy all electronics at retail stores, specially those that have a fixed MSRP. Imagine if you purchased a badass 72" Mitsu TV from newegg and the screen arrived shattered...can you imagine the shipping cost back to newegg? The money you just saved purchasing it online compared to the store just left your wallet. I buy the MAJORITY of my electronics retail, specially if they are delicate. Just my two cents...

Maybe a noisy coil inside the power supply. IIRC, if this is the case, it isn't bad. The power supply is actually working correctly- its just noisy. But I would call up MS and see about getting it replaced.

You don't pay for shipping when RMA'ing stuff back to Newegg or Amazon, they cover the cost entirely.

amazon rocks, they are shipping me a second unit next day air..because that is what I purchased my first one at, and giving my a prepaid label to ship the other one back ... tax free .

Yeah, Amazon.com has free shipping if you return a broken or defective piece of merchandise.

I got my new 360, and it's a LOT quieter...very noticeable too. The thing is pretty much quiet now...no more high pitched hum of the fan in the power supply.

Glad they fixed it for you. I thought my reach bundle was broken at first because the dvd drive made no noise when installing to the hard drive =P

haha, I still have to get another 360 for my extender, wonder if I should get the reach bundle ... I kind of wanted Halo anyhow.
