Check your local EB Games and Gamestop stores for right now. They've likely already filled their pre-order slots though. They only get around 20 per store.

you are correct. when xbox came out my friend who worked at EB told me they were paying exactly $300 for each system, and then they turned around and sold them for exactly that. the stores made absolutely $0 profit on the hardware sales, only on games + accessories.

This makes sense, as this is probably why the game store typically sell pre-orders on new consoles in packages, effectively making you buy 3 extra games and some accessories. For every person who doesn't want to do it, there's another who will. Good strategy.

Sounds like they're trying to create demand by saying that demand by saying there will be demand, and that in turn will create an actual shortage, and before you know it one innocent comment by Johnny Carson starts a run on toilet paper. How many times will people fall for that crap? How many people will be stupid enough to pay hundreds over retail on eBay for these again? Dumb sheep.
