Xbox 360 service contract?

I saw this the first time I opened my box but didn't think much of it, should this be something I need to do? It's $50 for 2 years of coverage, I thought all xboxes have 3 years now because of the ring of death?

I bought 1 extra year of coverage for $30. It was before they extended the warranty. It was worth it to me...

The extra 2 years would be a "bumper to bumper" coverage. It comes with a 1-year all-inclusive warranty, 3 years of red-ring protection. Meaning, if your CD drive fails after a year and a half, you'll have to pay for it unless you buy this extended warranty. If you get the red-ring in a year and a half, it's fully covered.

I bought the 3 year thing back when the warranty was still 90 days. They STILL haven't sent me the confirmation and info packet, it's been over a year.

I would buy this if it gets your xbox back alot quicker from a red ring return. Like priority service or something. If not then its worthless.

that's weird. I got the info packet very quickly. Then when they extended the warranty, they sent me a new packet with updated dates since the manufacturer warranty was extended to 1 year.

The 3 years only cover the RROD. All other issues fall under the standard warranty.

I did do a Google search and found a forum thread discussing that the MUST BE DONE IN 10 DAYS OR ELSE! is false, that I have one year to do this. Anyone know about this?

yes its false.

I was able to purchase it about 1 week before my extended 1 year warranty expired.

Just call up customer service and ask when your warranty expires. write down date and remember to call back before that and purchase it over the phone.

Disregard >>> Another option is the Costco satisfaction guaranteed 'warranty'. 🙂

Edit: Thanks to theLION, bullbert, and Yreka for correcting me.

So my 360 crapped out on me; lasted about 11 months. Luckily i returned it at Costco, but they gave me a spiel about how this falls under electronics, meaning the warranty is for 90-days. Of course if you read the return policy, the word "electronics" is not on there, so I would think that you might get hassled for trying to return a messed-up 360.

Costco changed their policy this year. Make sure to keep you old receipts (pre-policy change) to show them your purchase is to be honored under the original lifetime warranty, and not the new 90 day warranty.

Yeah, I had a buddy get denied the same way, except he never ended up getting the return.. I think they told him it falls under the "computer" category.

Wow, learn something every day. Thanks for this info. I recently recommended Costco to a friend looking for a 360 simply because of the warranty.
