Summer doldrums or RROD problems???

I think it has to do with the RROD and not dropping the price of the console. I imagine they are waiting on the 65nm chip and the fall game selection before dropping the price for the Holiday season. We'll see.

With the RROD problem making headlines, a lot more potential customers now know about it, whereas before, you had to be a forum crawler to get the info. However, I think the "summer doldrums" are partly to blame, also. Wait until towards the end of next month, then the 360 should really start to heat up.....umm, sales I mean. :D

Little from column A, little from column B. 360 sales were slowing before this. I think they've just about maxed out the number of people willing to 'jump in' at the $300/$400 price point. Which is why they need to hurry up and do a price drop.

It's a poor time to buy and many know that. Lots of the hardcore fans are waiting for the 65nm "Falcon" and then a lot of general consumers will hold out until Halo 3 and other games coming out this fall.

This is likely true...although I think there are a number of Halo fanboys who are waiting to buy the console when Halo 3 comes out. One friend of mine said he was going to hold off until Halo 3 came out. I talked him into buying on before Halo 3 came out and all he does on it is play Halo 2. There will be a lot of people buying just because of Halo 3 me thinks. I'm thinking that a month after Halo 3 ships is when MS will finally drop the price...they want to make as much money off of the launch as possible.

You're probably right on that. They've got a cash cow coming and they'd be foolish to drop it before that. Soon afterwards is more likely.

I definitely won't buy one until they fix the thing. I wonder how many people have lost their jobs over the RROD fiasco? I sure hope it was worth it them saving $2 per unit to use a half-assed cooling system.

I hope not many. Believe me...if anyone is annoyed by the RROD problem...its me...I've been out a 360 for over a week...and probably won't see it again for at least another week. Still, as much as the RROD thing sucks...the 360 is a nice piece of hardware that was really well thought out and designed. For something that came out almost a year and a half before the PS3, I'm amazed at the power and visual quality of the system. The controllers are fantastic and work wonderfully well. The Firmware is solid and Xbox Live is far and away the best online experience out there. Sure, it would be nice if they didn't have any reliability problems...but I'll get over it given all of the fun I've had with the machine. It was really hard for my wife to convince me that I shouldn't just go out and buy a second one for the upstairs when the 360 RROD'd.

I can't believe we're going on 2 years with the 360 this fall...that's crazy how time flys...just a few more years and we'll have a whole new generation of hardware upon us.

They'll likely piss off a bunch of retailers that offer price guarantees.
