Xbox 360 owners. Any of you send your ring of death unit back to Microsoft, get it back and fail again after a several restarts?

Guy at work just got that. Got his same unit back today, worked for about an hour and bam! ring of death again. Microsoft is doing the whole repair process again for him.

Wonder how common that is?

Did they replace the actual hardware inside?

He is certain that its the same system? I'm curious if it was fixed at all. Maybe they got it, and it worked for them so they just sent it back. They might be doing that to weed out the people who think they'll get a free upgrade by claiming their system broke hoping to get one of the newer ones as a replacement.

The inevitable happened and my friend's X360 RROD'd the other day. If it's not the new design it will happen eventually (some sooner than later).

We don't know, the documentation that came with it said nothing about exactly what Microsoft did. just "we repaired it and here is a free 1 month gold membership to xbox live."

The people in the Console Gaming Forum might be able to better answer this question...

Tell him to leave it on for at least a hour to warm anything lose up so that its really dead, not just kinda where if it cools down over aday or so it might work.
