XBox 360 -> Release When?

i heard christmas, was this just bad reporting or will it be that long?

They said "holiday season", so it'll probably be a little before Christmas to allow for maximum sales. For reference, the original Xbox came out in November 2001, and I would imagine that the new one will be released around the same time of year.

Edit: Can we say "paper launch"?

wonder if they will be able to keep the momentum going for 6 more mos, seems like quite a long time

Yeah...I'll admit that I wasn't really following consoles much at all last generation so I don't know how long they were announced before availability (I've still never owned one), but six months seems really excessive for a paper launch. Maybe a month or two, but six?...

Now if what we're hearing about the PS3 is true, they're even worse. Slated for a 2006 release - and probably only Spring 2006 in Japan, and ~six months later in the US. A year and a half??? I understand they wanted to have something to show to steal some thunder from Microsoft, but jesus, a year and a half is like an entire video card life cycle....:thumbsdown:

kind of like how long it took to get doom 3 out, years.... most people will have forgotten about it by then, atleast the ones that they showed it to on mtv that would buy it just to look kool
