1) Will xbox original games play in the 360 system? I ask cause the first release of games has not very many E for everyone ratings, and I would like to use sme of the original xbox games..

2) Are there any plans for and HDMI or DVI type of connection?? Any revisions coming out??

3) Are there any "steering wheels" you can get for the system to run the racing games??? the connection is USB will my existing PC steering wheel work??

4) The sony PS3....Is it going to hit the targeted Xmas date, and is it worth the wait??? They are obviously having issues from the report I read about the first missed targeted date.

1) not entirely sure, i remember something about having to recompile the xbox games so that they would run on the 360, and i assume that if that is to happen the recompiled game must reside on the HDD

2) again not sure on that, my house mate here has some kind of way to connect to his LCD and he runs 720p through his LCD pc monitor and it looks great. i would hope that either future 360's will have HDMI or DVI type connections since they are afterall going to be offering a HD-DVD upgrade/add-on.

3) no idea

4) i believe the PS3 will hit the target christmas date, afterall it would be a bit of a mare for sony if they missed it. wether its worth the wait or not remains to be seen, i havent seen much in game footage from the PS3, only pre-renders. for me it will be worth the wait for GT5 alone, but thats me. and also the 360 is going to get a nice price chop just in time for the PS3 launch, and i believe kutaragi said the PS3 will be reasuringly expensive

latest rumour suggests $399 as the price, though i expect it to be more like $499. but for that you get a 60gb hard drive...standard, and a blu-ray capable machine.

1- No, most Xbox games will not work on the Xbox 360.....there is a compatability list you can easily google

2- Yes, there is a 65nm revision rumored at this point

3- Not that I am aware of

4- Yes it will hit the x-mas launch date, but in limited quantities........Will it be worth the wait?...imo yes it will be.

E3 will be a good source of information coming up in less then 1 month.

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm

here is the list....seems pretty comprehensive for not being "most".....

I am unsure about the software emulator....I will get the HDD edition but wonder how you get the software emulators...do you need the xbox live account as well??

2) means something if heating is a major issue...I haven't heard of any yet with the few ppl I know got one early...

4) I googled PS3 and while it sounds exciting and nice features, too much of it hasn't really been shown yet...Blu-ray is not a big thing for me as I dont use my "gaming console" as my DVD player or entertainment center....So IMO not worth the wait, and if it turns out to be good I will buy it then...

So ppl just answer the first 3....

You can download the backwards compatibility emulator as an ISO. I've heard a few stories of the 360 overheating, and while mine runs really hot (the exhaust is close to scalding), it's never overheated, or behaved like it's getting too hot. I run mine almost exclisively horizontally, though, as opposed to people who run theirs vertically. I've also read on xboxscene that there might be a DVI connector coming out, but nobody knows if the 360 can output digitally anyway. The cable that lets you connect it to an LCD monitor is a VGA cable. And I really can't help you with the wheel, I have a logitech driving force pro, but never bothered to connect it up.

whats the story on this limited quantities? last i heard they were going for a world wide launch with availability not being an issue? i thought thats why it was delayed until xmas 2006, so they could stock pile them?

granted i dont think it matters how many they stock pile, theyre gonna sell out in seconds if their previous consoles are anything to go by.

2) i would say heating isnt too much of an issue on ones you buy now. one of my friends got his on launch and is now onto his 3rd console, it kept crashing. my house mate just got his (pre-order since launch!) over easter and its been rock solid. he told me apparently alot of people had problems with the power bricks.

never the less, 65nm shrink will make the 360 cooler and cheaper (for me the 360 looks better every day) hopefully sony will have some kind of trump card to make it worth the extra $$$,

like you i dont see blu-ray as that trump card. HD-DVD while probably not the better of the two techs seems the most versatile (read: double sided discs with HD on one side, SD on the other so you dont have to buy the same movie twice during HD-DVD transition)

hopefully sony aren't just relying on previous success to sell the PS3

seems like a pretty comprehensive list of games  to MS, i know PS3 you will jus pop the ps1 or ps2 disc in an it will play, but its not like the 360 doesnt have the power to use an emulator

the 360 is a nice piece of kit for the price. but id be inclined to wait for the 65nm refresh, and to see what is done about HDCP or HDMI type connections and wether they swap the DVD drive for a HD-DVD drive. if had HDMI/DVI and a HD-DVD now then id snap one up.

Actually Blu-Ray can have the movie in both SD and HD on the same side of the disk, with no need to flip it.

Nintendo Wii - stupid name, batter gameplay, cheaper price, BY FAR the most likely console to have lots of quality E rated games. I think while many will debate which console is best, most could agree that anyone concerned with content will probably find Nintendo the safest option.

Even if 99% of the games released for the Wii are Barbie Pony Fantasy crap, the fact that eventually we will see a Zelda and a Metroid game for it makes it worth buying.

I will wait a bit...B-day is 5/20....

I dont care about waiting for PS3...If it is better then I will buy it at Xmas for him...

I just wanted to know if we can get a wheel for it and play some of the older much more title rich first series of games...

I see 65nm as more of a money maker for MS and less as any better options for us the users...Heat will obviously be a side benefit, but the few I have seen I was not overly concerned about the heat being exhausted...

you're an awesome dad with that attitude lol

here is my 2cents....

1. Answered

2. There will be atleast small "boxes" converting the type of connection available at some point. Though since the "when" is what is so confusing about this, I advise you not to let it sway your decision either way.

3. Yes there are steering wheel kits available, but no yours will not work directly. Bill Gates has to make his money =P.

4. With all the arguments between who likes what console..and which one to buy.. the hardware is always relativly even enough...
Go into a place.. like Game Stop... take a look at their xbox games selection... usually 2 racks or so.. with a 1 rack gamecube selection next to it.

Now turn around and look at the oposite wall... its completely covered in PS2 titles...as in 5 or 6 racks.

This is why I prefer playstation. Xbox has better graphics and more fluidity than PS2.. (though most likley wont be the case with PS3) but there are so many many many more games for ps2 if i had to choose 1 or the other I would get that one.

PS3 will carry on this tradition. And Xbox360 will try to expand abit...but microsoft wants to control everything... and some nature or another of contracts prevent many software developers from releasing games on Xbox machines... where Playstation and Sony, just cut the developmental world loose and you see the games flood in.

Since you're going to buy him both.. doesnt matter heh.
Just be sure to get oblivion...cuz if he dont like it... you will.

I do not see why everyone constantly states that it is more likely that the PS3 will be faster than the Xbox 360. Perhaps it is because Sony said so. There have already been multiple arcticles on various sites that break the specs down and find that the Xbox 360 is theoretically faster. For one thing, you are comparing an R500(Based on the as of yet unreleased R600) to a G70 in the video card department. The PS3 is limited to 256MB of system memory and 256MB of video memory. On the 360, the developer can partiton how the total 512MB of memory is used. I could go on and on and on. How is the PS3 more likely to be faster?

Microsoft in a few months will be releasing another list of games that are compatible in the next few months. "Huge List".

Yes, they are developing plans to include HDMI

I heard they are working with third party vendors to create these.

Sony will hit a few weeks behind XMAS will be my guess. Is it worth it? Well considering that 360 and ps3 have almost the same hardware capibilities then it is up the game makers to decide the purchase.

Microsoft will be moving over to 65nm which will make the XBOX cheaper and less heat but I never heard of any heat issues before. All in all I would say get whatever you want, if you do not want to spend money now then dont.

Yes I do have a 360

I'd suggest Burnout over NFS...it's a blast.

Oh and re: the overheating thing....I've never had a problem with mine, although a friend of mine did. Of course, he slid his into a shelf on his entertainment center that was barely bigger than the 360.

Ya gotta let it breathe.
