I don't think anyone has posted on this yet? Comparison

Looks like the consoles are almost on par with xbox leading by a slight edge:

After going through another eight games, we've found a few trends that follow both of these consoles around. Outside of Rainbow Six Vegas 2, our findings didn't show any drastic differences in image quality between the two consoles--nothing compared to what we found when we compared first-generation games in our original comparison feature. The PlayStation 3 generally lags behind the Xbox 360 in high-quality textures and the depth/normal maps that go with them. However, in the same games, the PlayStation 3 sometimes comes ahead with better shadowing and antialiasing. Games on the PS3 do tend to be blurrier than their Xbox 360 counterparts, but the PlayStation 3 games can look just as good as the Xbox 360 games when developers put some effort into it, as is evident with both Grand Theft Auto IV and Burnout Paradise. Overall, the PlayStation 3 outputs visuals that are either on par with the Xbox 360 or only slightly behind.

Well, looking at the screenshots I do agree with them. I am not a fan of the PS3 blurryness. That is probably why it seems to have an edge when it comes to aliasing. The more blurry the picture, the less aliasing shows up.

I wish they could have compensated with the TV settings to bring them to the same brightness. If Gamma or brightness is turned too high, the colors and textures become washed out and make the picture look worse.

In a few weeks I need to make up my mind if I want a 360 or a PS3. I am partly thinking of going PS3 because it seems many of the 360 games are ported to the PC and vice versa. Which means there will be a lot of overlap. Plus the PS3 has Blu-Ray which did win... I suppose PS3 will be my choice.

Looking at those pictures, I can't say I really see "better" and "worse," I just see "different."

I have both consoles and they seem very close in quality.

Realistically, only a very small number of consumers are going to be able to get much advantage out of these settings.

I agree with that depending on their television. But one would think Gamespot would have a 1080p set. And it does make a big difference for that. At least it did for me on my 40 Samsung.

That game I hear is nice. It's probably the only reason besides having a blu ray player that I might get a PS3. I'm waiting until the prices come down even more or there is a deal. By then I could probably get Uncharted from the bargain bin.

Well, you are right. But what I really meant was an HD set. Some HD tv's support Super White while some of them don't. I assume the same thing goes for Full RGB also.

But I can tell you now from experience...When I first turned on my PS3 it did look exactly like those pictures in the Gamespot comparison review. But a month later when I found out about those two settings, it made a world of difference.

And if a person's set supports those two settings, and turn them on and say they see no difference, they are just a complete idiot. :)

Or just rent it, unless you're the type who'd play a single player game multiple times. It's a great game (at least until they completely changed directions 3/4 of the way through), but I haven't touched it since I finished it in December.

I feel dizzy from looking at the PS3 pics  The Xbox360 is just a bit too sharp though :p I think the sweet spot would be somewhere in between. Also, some games look alot brighter on the PS3 and some look alot darker than on the 360. The MS console seems to be having the better average brightness/contrast. Wouldn't want to mess with the settings on my TV each time I want to switch games or watch regular TV...

I own a 360 btw, so I might be a bit biased, however I wouldn't mind owning a PS3 too :) I just like the games on the 360 more :)

edit: And what the hell is with the shadows in the new games anyway? They look terrible ! I'm sure both consoles are more than capable of drawing proper-looking shadows, why do the developers opt for the terrible blocky ones? Though perhaps Doom3 type games spoiled me... ;) Just a general rant, as both consoles have the same issue.

From glancing (and playing) in stores, I always thought the PS3 looked better. And I own a 360 (and Wii!). To me, the games looked sharped and more vibrant. *shrug*

As much as I like the vid qual, I can't get myself to purchasing a PS3, even with Blu-Ray (am a avid AVidphile, too). There just isn't enough compelling games out there for me (yet). In fact, I'm more attracted to the PS2 offerings that are still coming out.

I'm intrigued by the MGS bundle, though... who knows? Maybe I'll bite the bullet then.

I did the comparisons last Fall when I was shopping for a system. I thought the graphics on the 360 beat the PS3. Mostly, the reason is because the developers making the games are making them for the 360 and porting them to the PS3.

If Sony were to invest in development teams...in other words, release more of their own games, they would probably have the edge.

I definately agree with this point here.

I have a PS3 and GT5 looks amazing (built for the PS3) whereas GTA4 doesn't look as impressive

There is no doubt that most of multiplatform games look superior on the 360; but PS3 exclusives at competent hands aren't too bad, with exception of Haze and such.
