If that's true then after the 90 day warranty with Buy.com you'll still have 9 months of full warranty + 2 years 9 months of RROD warranty. I'm not sure how refurb warranties work though, it very well may be identical.
I read that and all it says is bill of sale (receipt) of purchase.
"Submit proof of purchase in the form of a bona fide, dated bill of sale, receipt, or invoice (or a copy) evidencing that your request for service is made within the Warranty Period."
when you buy a new console at a retail store, MS knows that that serial number has been purchased, and that's when the warranty starts. i doubt it would start anew on a refurb, best case you still get the rrod warranty but you don't know when it started (probably less than a year ago for hdmi boxes).
