Xbox 360 price break/new processor?

I recently heard from a friend that Microsoft was planning on cutting the price of the Xbox 360 console. Anyone know if/when this is happening and how much they are cutting it?

Also, several months ago I heard (on Gamespot's website) that Microsoft was planning on releasing a cooler running processor for the Xbox 360. Anyone know if/when this is going to be implimented?

*edit* should probably have posted this in the "gaming" section. I'll post it there, if a mod sees this feel free to delete.

Probably...it is my guess.

We have a gaming section?

Personally, I wouldn't expect a price drop until next year. They're slotted in a pretty good position in the market, between Nintendo and Sony. The PS3 will very likely not be available in any amount of quantity until next year, and thats when Microsoft will want to combat them with more aggressive pricing. They might do some value added promotions (bundle games, peripherals, etc.).

I think Microsoft themselves have said that 2007 will be the earliest that they make any changes to the hardware.

The loudest part of the 360 is the dvd drive, not the fans to keep the chips cool, so a cooler chip isn't going to do a whole lot for you. The high price of the PS3 probably means that there won't be any price cut on the 360, but there have been increasing numbers of bundles that include free games at no extra cost. I'd love to see a $500 360 with integrated HDDVD, a $350 premium and the core either killed or at $250.
