how come people are willing to pay $800+ for WoW characters on ebay???

damn, i should start playing

No way in hell will it work out to a decent hourly rate. These $800+ characters, they're probably level 60 right? I know nothing about WoW (except that I think level 60 is the highest), but I HIGHLY doubt you could get to level 60 (or even 20) in a week, and $800 is not a whole ton of money for a week of work.

knowing about the topic at hand is important to replying to it.

I wouldn't dwelve into it, but there is a lot of (against game rules) money to be made.

A guy out there making $125k a month that wants to play a game probably has more money than free time. He wants to maximize his fun time and minimize the grinding/repetitive stuff that happens in these games...so he just buys it and plays at his leisure.

Uh... ok. Well I wasn't criticizing someone for buying an account, just saying that selling your account probably won't net you a good hourly rate. You made no attempt to refute that.

I highly doubt that someone would bother to pay for an account that they could have after a week of playing the game, and if it takes you more than a week to yield an account that will get you $800, that's not any better than a half-decent job.

Edit: I just searched eBay for completed listings on WoW accounts. I found one with FOUR level 60 characters for $450. That's pathetic.

Most of the auctions ended for much less.

I bought my lvl 60 wow account off ebay. Heh. But yeah, sometimes you don't have the time to invest in all that, and you just want to kick some PvP @$$... I paid just under 300 for a single level 60 account. of course it has some epic armor, lotsa gold and all that good stuff, plus it was in the booming era of the online wow account sales. Higher profit in those days. =P

When you actually have fun getting the 60's and then make profit after getting rid of the account though, it's nice. It's like an added bonus for having some fun with friends.

Sure it is, it just isn't a great way to make money.

You're better off hiring a bunch of mexicans to farm all day.
