maybe in a decade. but while its still being sold to kids and stuff i think that would be a serious turnoff for parents.

Yeah, the last console that was released for a $700+ pricetag tanked out of the starting gates.

yea i think people don't realize how much bigger the console market is compared to pc.

To put things in perspective, Halo 2 completely outsold Half-Life 2. After two months of release, Half-Life 2 sold 1.7 million copies. Halo 2 sold 5 million copies in just 3 weeks ? and gamers actually had to pay to play onlinehttp://www.firingsquad.com/features/xbox_360_versus_pc_faceoff/page3.asp

let alone how small the market is for high end 300+ dollar high end video cards...

blizzard is basically the exception, they get mass audience because their game doesn't exactly stress hardware at all. if they only worked on 400 dollar video cards it would be a different matter.

look

Minimum system requirements for World of Warcraft:

* Your computer will need a 56K or higher Internet connection
* You must have a valid e-mail address

Windows® System/OS (ME, 2000, XP):

* Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon 800 Mhz or higher CPU
* 512 Megabytes (MB) or more of RAM
* 32MB 3D Graphics card with Hardware Transform and Lighting (such as an Nvidia GeForce 2 class or better)
* 6 Gigabytes or more of available hard drive space
* 4x CD-ROM drive
* DirectX® 9.0c (included with game) and latest video card drivers

Mac® System/OS:

* 933 MHz or higher G4, G5, or Intel processor
* 512 Megabytes RAM or higher
* ATI or NVIDIA video hardware with 32 MB VRAM or more
* 6 Gigabytes or more of available hard drive space
* 4x CD-ROM drive
* MacOS X 10.3.9

80% of software sales are for console http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20051125/tc_nm/east_electronicarts_dc

Yeah really. How could someone prefer a thinking game to a "shoot everything that moves" or Madden Football Version 204 (now with visible sweat dripping off players)?
I think it goes to show that the Japanese have a far different taste in video games, one that I in fact share. The original X-Box had maybe 3 games that interested me, and I'm waiting for the 360 to change the fact before I buy one. Perhaps the Japanese share my skepticism.
Sports games are to America as RPGs are to Japan really.
