So i just heard that the 60gb XBOX360's will allow games to be installed on to the harddrive. Which means less noise and no more rattling disctrays.

I how ever have the 20gb 360 and im wondering whether or not the 20gb 360 pro will allow install and play. Will this be a part of the fall update or something only the 60gb ones will be allowed to have?

It will be a part of the fall update. I'd imagine that 20GB hard drives will have this feature as well, although you'll only be able to fit a game, maybe two on there before filling it up.

Yea i know that im only going to be able to fit 2 games, maybe 3 if i try =D. Oh well ill just pick up a 60gb HD =P You still have to insert the disc when your playing the game. that way they can stop pirating and what not. Maybe in the future they can give product keys along with the games.

microsoft won't give out product keys with the games. What's to stop you from renting the game, copying down the product key then returning it? Or even buying just one copy of the game and sharing it with tons of your friends? forcing people to go online to verify keys isn't always the best way. some people don't even broadband internet at home. My cousin is one of them. He has it for his practice to do billing but at home he just uses the dialup access provided with dsl plan at the office.

I plan to pick up either 60gb drive or a 120 gig one. depends on pricing and how the whole install to drive works out.

chances are the xbox 360 uses 5400rpm drives. Its possible that they switched to 7200rpm ones in recent productions but I doubt. the performance difference is marginal at best. Why would microsoft spend more?

From what I read, it requires the disk in the drive in order to play the game from the HD. It just won't spin the drive that's all.

It seems to me that for most current games, it wouldn't really be worth using all the disk space to put the game on your hard drive. It would only be truly useful for particular games that have long loading sequences which would be significantly sped up by having the game on the hard drive. Maybe they are forseeing longer and longer loading times for future games... but for now it doesn't seem necessary for most games. There are a few though where it will be a really nice feature :)

I suppose if your xbox cdrom is really loud it could be a nice feature too, but I don't have that issue with mine.. i don't even hear the CD spinning.

360 games will take a maximum of ~6.5GB of space per DVD (the rest of the space on the DVD is used for security). So, for 20GB 360s, you should be able to definitely fit one on there and possibly two depending on your HDD usage.

It will mainly help with load times but the lack of noise from the dvd drive will be nice too.

Oh, and the fall update will be coming in November.

They need 2gb of space for "security"? Source, please. Besides, they'd still be ripping that stuff - it's not like the need for security goes away because the ISO is on your hard drive rather than burned to a disc.

I'm quite glad I bought my Elite, but I hope Microsoft and Nintendo go down the "bring your own HDD" path for the next generation. I think Sony has proven that it can work.

I just wish I could buy my own hard drive and plug it into the xbox instead of being robbed by microsoft charging a fortune for their proprietary formatting or whatever it is they do to them :( not only do I not want to pay the ridiculous prices for their hard drives, but I'd like to put a much larger drive in than what they offer.

I think it would be useful, there are a few disks i have that are pretty bruised up. Its going to be nice to place them all onto the hardrive.

Another question How would i take my gamer profile from my old HDD and take it to the new one? a best buy guy said that the gamerscore/profile is stored on a microsoft server and that it all i need to do is download the profile from online.

if you get the 120gb drive there's a transfer kit included. It moves all your data from 20gb to 120gb.

I would assume that the 60gb drive should it be sold as an accessory would also include it.

There are different manufacturers that made the drive. I don't hear mine at all.

Nope... it's just sitting next to my TV... I'm sitting back away from the TV on my couch, so maybe I'm just not close enough... but it doesn't make any noise.
