XBox 360 HDDVD player stupid question

I've read in reviews that the 360's hddvd addon is nice but it lacks HDMI output. Is the addon simply plugged into the 360 and the same output from the 360 is used, or does the addon have its own video output (seems unlikely to me, but I am rather stupid)? Because if the former is true, my Elite 360 would be able to send the hddvd drive's signal out using the HDMI cable, right?

it goes through your xbox, so if your xbox has an hdmi port then you can hook it up with hdmi. it's just standard usb drive.

The 360 can't output audio over hdmi (video is fine) so it has to use optical, which means it can't do some of the new hd audio formats that are hdmi only. Unless you have a new relatively high end receiver its meaningless (and even then the difference is not substantial for most people).
