Hey guys.

Years back I gave my little bro a release X360. To this day he uses it with no problems... until now.

Our dad bought him Destiny. Without knowing, my brother tore it open only to find out it will be impossible to install for him because it requires 20gb of space, and he still has an original 20gb hard drive, which, even if you deleted everything possible - you will still only have about 13-15gb of usable space.

In comes the question... I have a 120gb Elite hard drive that I kept from a system I traded in that failed. That system got the RROD, but I'm pretty sure the HDD is fine.

So I have a 120gb HDD with my profile stuff on it... can I just pull my bro's HDD and pop mine in and let him set up his XBL profile on it? Or what is the best approach? Is it even possible for him to just use my drive? Can I "format" so to speak some how?

Also if it helps at all, I have a HDD transfer cable somewhere if it makes the process easier.

TIA.

Yes you can just pop it on and yes you can format it it will just ask for your consoles sn you can get it off the sticker just inside the USB door On the metal case

So even though my HDD already has my profile and game data on it, it will wipe it clean for my little brother and bring his data over?

Thanks for the quick response!

EDIT:

Also do you mean the console that died for the SN? I don't have that anymore.

No when you put your hard drive in it will have all your info.

You'll have to migrate his you can use an external drive to get it over or if you have one big enough a flash drive.

I meant the an on the current xbox

I found some guides on YouTube that use the transfer cable, but the new hard drive they are installing always seems to be a blank one already.

I'm hoping I can just use the same process on a hard drive that already has data on it. I don't care if I lose it.

Transfer cable will format the destination drive. People on this thread are making it a lot harder than it needs to be. Just use the transfer cable if you want him to have all his data. You'll lose yours, but it doesn't appear that you care that much about it.

Or, transfer stuff via USB drive. That's what I did. I think you get up to 16 GB of storage on the flash drive. If he's coming off of a 20-GB drive, then he can't have more than 14 GB, so you should be good.

This is exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks!

Just an update:

I couldn't plug in the new HDD and hook his old one through the cable. For some reason it would not detect... I moved the cable to all the different USB ports (including one I knew for a fact was working).

So I attached the bigger drive and connected his old one and it detected it. So I swapped it back just to see if restarting it or something got it to work... no go. So then I swapped it back again and just "exported" his stuff to the bigger drive which left all my old stuff on there.

So he's set up now but all my crap is taking up room. I told him if he needs space just delete whatever he wants.
