Xbox 360 Halo Edition

In my area, every store is sold out of Xbox 360 Pro systems. Recently, after calling an EBgames nearby they said they had a used Xbox 360 Halo Edition system for $270. This is significantly cheaper than the $400 retail price of the 360 Halo Edition system.

I'm not particularly wild about the Halo edition's colors, but for the cheaper price I'd take it. People say that the Halo systems all have the new Falcon chips, although some people have experienced RRoD with them.

I normally wouldn't purchase an Xbox 360 used from anyplace, due to their high failure rate. The fact that this one is a Halo Edition one would make me feel a bit more confident in purchasing it. Who knows, maybe whoever returned it returned it due to not liking the color and wanting a regular edition.

Any advice? Thanks.

I wouldn't do it. I love my 360 to death, but I am aware that they have hardware issues, and I wouldn't buy a used one for any price.

how about the elite version?
I found one new at walmart but it's $100 more than I'm willing to pay... I wanted the pro/premium one but can't find it anywhere

These people are wrong. The Halo editions all have HDMI, which means that they are either Zephyrs or Falcons. And there were Halo editions made with Zephyrs.

The RRoD is an error message that will undoubtedly still occur on every version because NO hardware, Xbox 360 or otherwise, is 100% reliable. You should have more reliable hardware with the most recent revision, but nothing is ever guaranteed.

I wouldn't buy a Halo Edition Used for such a discounted price. That's a giant hint that there is something wrong with it.

There was just a thread in Off-Topic about the hell someone is going through after buying a used Premium at GameStop.

Just be patient -- join GameTap for a month or buy a game for one of your other systems. Buying a used 360 is just not worth the potential torment when it needs replacement.

It's $80 off the Pro price, but it's used, possibly flaky, and you don't get Forza and MUA.

If you can't be patient, at least make sure to check that the warranty seals are intact. You need to be sure of having the MS warranty once the store warranty is up.

QFT

With the failure rate of 360s and unproven record of Falcons, I wouldn't dare. Just wait a week or two before new stock arrives.

Lots and LOTS around here too. Post-Christmas sales have cleared out the Premiums leaving only Arcade and Halo editions; still lots of the latter left. Looks like they screwed up on the Halo 3 estimates cause there's way too many Legendary editions (+ merchandise) and consoles left.

Yep, that's all I see - lots of Arcade and Halo editions, lots of Halo Legendary editions, a few Elites sitting around here and there, and NO pro systems.
