Because I don't intend to speak to Microsoft. I don't intend to jump through all the hoops and over all the hurdles just to hopefully get the opportunity to go through the hassle of shipping this brick back to them and then waiting 8 weeks for a refurbished unit.

No thanks... my solution is much easier and will produce immediate results.

Yeah, you're gonna steal one from a retail store by replacing it with yours without even asking for an RMA from MS? Real ethical buddy. Just remember that what goes around comes around.

OMG like anyone really gives a crap about ethics in these situations.

being ethical gets you the square root of sod all. to get what you want ethics must go out the window.

i would try the switch if thats what he's doing and to hell with making things more expensive for everyone else by getting one over on MS who lets be honest wont even notice $400 in their accounts. i want the product i payed for and i want it now, not next week

Honest question with no intention to bash - If you knew of the 360's problems, why didn't you purchase an extended warranty either through the retailer or through MS?

Certainly a fair question.

I'm not much of a believer of extended warranties (with one or two rare exceptions). If a product needs an extended warranty just so the consumer can use it for a reasonable period of time, then it's not ready for production. If I've got my eye on a product but it's having a large number of problems, and people are buying warranties to protect themselves from those problems, then I won't buy it. It's why I waited a year to buy the 360 in the first place. When I did buy the 360, it was after I learned that the 360 had undergone a product revision and the general sentiment was that the problems had been resolved. Eight months after that revision, we're learning that it didn't solve all of them.

So in hindsight, I don't wish that I had bought an extended warranty... I wish I hadn't bought the 360.

id never buy a extended warranty either

its just a way sell you nothing. they make money out of thin air most of the time. its sods law that if you buy the extended warranty you'll never need to use it.

and i agree, you shouldnt have to buy an extended warranty for a product just to use it for a decent amount of time.

Fair enough. I just bought a 2nd 360 for my wife through an Overstock.com deal. She's gotten hooked and she needs a nice gift right now anyways. I'm planning on getting the 2-year extended warranty with it through Overstock for $35.

Explain to me how exactly you're sticking it to MS by stealing an Xbox off the shelves of Walmart or Best Buy? MS already got its money when Walmart and Best Buy paid it for their stock of Xboxes. I'm willing to bet that your twisted Robin Hood sense of entitlement isn't going to garner a lot of sympathy from the general public. And if you were caught stealing, I'm pretty sure that 12 of your peers would convict you on your attitude alone.

I bought a 4-year extended warranty for my HDTV. It has broken twice in that time. I've more than saved money on repair costs. Same with my launch Xbox360.

I don't buy extended warranties for every little thing but I will on big ticket electronics.

One thing is for sure, the 360 is damn fun!

Do you have any idea how retail even works? When you return defective product to a store, they don't eat it. They send it back to the manufacturer. They absorb the shipping costs of dealing with the defect, but ultimately the manufacturer gets it back.

It varies greatly by manufacturer and product, and also as to why there was a return.

Ya, I see a lot of sympathy flowing your way.

so your saying that its ok for a product to just fail after the warranty is out (even if it is like 90 days or what ever)? so we arent allowed to get one over on them, but they can get one over on us?

thats great, ill set up a company, ill make a console, ill warranty it for a year and design them to implode 2 days after the warranty is up and the consumer cant do nothing because u say its not right for them to have something they paid for?

what ever mate.

consoles these days generally have a 4-5 year lifespan, i expect, in this day and age...that people can make a console that, shock horro, wont break in that time.

sure i expect there to be some failures, even toyota and honda (2 of the most reliable makers in the world) have their lemons, but the frequency of the 360 failures is just shocking

i have one that was purchased in april.... and its showing signs of death, it has toruble reading brand new discs and locking up ruining my game

the bastard thing is bearly 6months old and its already on the slippery slope to copping out. you simply dont expect anything today to be dead in less than 6months

if it is its either not made properly or it isnt actually ready for sale

the only time my 360 has problems is when im playing fight night round 3. it will crash sometimes and sometimes have weird glitches within the game. but only FNR3 does this on my 360, no other game gives me problems. ive played through prey all the way, a lot of PGR3, beat PDZ, played a lot of Test Drive, only problem I have with my 360 is fight night. I should have bought the extended warranty, but because I didnt, I know my consequences.

360s are awesome. :)

You should make a YouTube video about it. Someone has already done "cook an egg on the CPU", though, so you'll need to think of something new.

You're still not explaining how stealing from Best Buy makes up for Microsoft's wrongs against you.

Just don't get caught trying that switcheroo trick. If you are this pissed now, I could easily imagine you hanging yourself with a shoelace in your jail cell....that will teach Microsoft not to mess with ya!

I see the frustration with MS, but sticking ANY costs to a retailer so you can get a new one isn't fair to the retailer. They provided an outlet for you to buy your unit, and don't deserve to lose profit because it breaks.

Just call MS and deal with them. That is the fair solution. What you are doing is criminal towards the retailer, who made no guarantees to product quality when you bought it.

Second, if there is a Costco nearby, always buy electronis through them. They will allow you to return anything, anytime, for any reason. Other retailers do not have this policy, so you are cheating them if you do it.

Secondly, people dont want a console that has a constant high pitched whine going off in the background while its keeping its self cool. I'm sure they'd get just as many complaints about that.

Ig-nor-ANT.

1. It's NOT to be expected. If I buy a product, IT SHOULD WORK. Don't be stupid by suggesting that the first X number of customers are just the second round of beta testers. Do you work for EA by any chance?

2. My console was not "one of the first". It's actually a "second revision" Xbox.

3. I'll take a high-pitched whine over a $400 heap of plastic any day, thank you very much. If the machine can't operate in normal conditions, then it's not ready to hit the shelves. It's as simple as that.

Somehow I doubt your "immediate" solution, since you're being so discreet about it, is legal. Kudos to you. Things don't go the way you want, whine on ATOT and break the law FTW!

I'd like to see you eat $400 ($600 if you include games and accessories). We'll see how cooperative you are at that point.

Assuming that they wouldn't be flexible if you actually gave them a call (which is by no means a definite), then an out of warranty repair is about $150.

I can definitely understand your frustation with it dying, but your scenario of what would happen if you attempted to follow protocol is just wrong.

My original Nintendo from when I was like 6 -> still works with a little lung power
Gameboy pocket -> still works
Another NES from who knows where -> still works, no lung power needed
Nintendo 64 -> still works
Super Nintendo -> worked when I sold it a year ago
Gamecube -> 1st gen system worked when I sold it 6 months ago

Original PSX -> had to replace
Various PS2 system -> One still works
Two X-Box systems ->One still works

Nintendo FTW!

So, you're unwilling to go to any effort to fix it, including being unwilling to call and ask

Seems like you're just a dumbass who has more money than brains. COME ON, the phone call is free, or a few cents, tops.

Wait... you were offered the chance to buy extended warranty insurance, and turned it down. Now your stuff broke, and your ranting?

Do you have either of the following?

Car Extended Warranty?
Life insurance?

Lets face it... sh1t happens, for random reasons. People die, and sh1t breaks.
Not having extended warranties or insurance is a gamble. Your Gamble.
If you fail to CYOA... why should anyone else do it for you?

BTW... This thread has been logged for police evidence in the event of your future illegal activites.
