no one wants to pay for games that expensive unless they have lots of money to burn..

Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't n64 games 70 dollars?

some were, yes ... so were some SNES games. I remember paying $70 for Super Street Fighter 2.

and while on topic of the 360 ...

Rumored Release Titles at the UK release.

Apparently that list was taken out of the latest Official XBox Magazine in UK or something. However, seeing a few of those games on that list makes me kind of skeptical, unless the UK 360 is supposed to come out next year some time. Because Halo 3, burnout revenge, Ninja Gaiden 2 ... those aren't supposed to be coming out nearly close to release date of the 360 in USA (or even at all).

i think ps2 was about 250 when it came out. i got one pretty close to when they came out...but it was packaged with GT3.

If you remember, Nintendo 64 was $300 when it came out.

I'm almost POSITIVE It was $250 and came with Mario 64. N64's release was the whole reason I got a job when I was 14 lol.

PS2 was $300 when it came out, i remember cause i waited in line overnight at target 🙂

and if you got a PS2 w/GT3, you didn't get a PS2 close to release.

I would like you to name a N64 that was $70. I don't think they ever really exceeded $50, maybe they went to $55. I remember Starfox with a rumble pack cost me $50 when it came out. There's no excuse for games that cost $60, N64 games cost so much because cartridges were expensive and yet Xbox 360 games are going to be $10 more on cheaper media? That completely sucks.

I paid $70 for killer instinct gold. and like I said also, some games on SNES were even $70.

The higher price tag was because of the hardware. They were games that just were more MB than most games. Its even apparent in the actual weight of the cartridges. If you pick up KI:Gold and Mario 64, you will feel a definite weight difference in the actual cartridges.

but yea, like i said, the extra $$ was because the game physically had more memory in it.

How long before we can mod one of these suckers?

I'd rather have my free xbox-live silver than mod it. Not worth it.

Most mods have a switch to disable the mod so you can play Xbox live.

That involves having the actual disc 🙁. I think they can check by scanning hdd now.

i have a modchip and go on live all the time. you do need an original came to play on live, because you have to turn your chip off.

My guess is that this will be much tougher to mod than an Xbox, since it's not running on a Wintel platform. I don't doubt the modders will eventually work it out, but I'd have to think MS isn't going to make it easy.

You guys do[/do] know that PS3 is launching at an expected $450 right?

And they don't even come with a hard drive out of the box.

Sony is out of their mind.

remember what a neo-geo cost, or even a 3DO for that matter.

QFT!

heck, what neo*geo hardware and games STILL cost. i think its amazing that a system released in 1990 is still having games released though, and thanks to emulation i can enjoy it all 😀

Some of you crack me up. OMG $60 games! That's just ridiculous. You already expect $50 so you're basically paying $10 more for a superior product. I'm surprised that inflation hasn't pushed this market even further than we've already seen.

Let me ask you this. How many of you who balk at paying $60 for a XBOX 360 game have no problem shelling out $50 for a PSP game? To me that $50 price is a lot more outrageous than the $60 price of a home system. Some of you may sit around the living room playing a portable system but I'd say a good portion of portable gamers use the system when they're not at the house...

I'd rather the price didn't increase by $10 but it had to happen sooner or later. I'm paying the same price for the hardware as I have for the last couple of units I've bought so I really have no room to complain here.

This just means you need to find hot deals.

I've never paid retail for any game, xbox or PC. For example, I didn't pay retail to pre-order Halo2 and I didn't pay retail for BF2 on launch day. I don't expect I'll ever pay retail for any xbox 360 games either. If because of the new $60 starting price the hot deals aren't good enough on launch day, then I'll wait a month and it'll probably fall to a price I'd be willing to pay.

Of course I won't be buying an xbox 360 till I see they have released enough titles that I actually want to buy.

You crazy.

$300 XBOX 360
$150 for 100 gb 2.5" hard drive (from newegg, with shopping, hot deals, would be much lower)
$35 additional controller
$75 (hi-ball #) for a modchip (Possibilty of flash mod?? Who knows)

So getting a system with the modchip would be about $600 after tax. Since games are on standard DVD, maybe about 6 gig a game? (Currently most Xbox games are 2-3 gig with exceptions like Ninja Gaiden, KOTOR, etc.)

100 gb hard drive becomes about 80 (being liberal here) after format, partition, apps.
80 gig divided by 7 gig (big game, again being liberal) = 11 games running from hard drive.
11 games * $65/gm = $715.

So the first 11 games you rip, download, pirate, borrow, whatever, you've already saved over $700. The $600 up front investment is well worth it. If game is bad or you finish it, delete it and move on. A month after the 360 is found to be moddable, i'm all over it.

Of course, the only sticky part is going on LIVE. Is it goin to be as easy as before where you mod your console, THEN sign up for Live?? No idea. I'm sure you will still need the original disc to play online.

All Xbox 360 are supposed to be xbox live aware right? So that means its pretty much worthless to d/l game to hdd to play if you want to play xbox live anyways since you need to buy the original disc.

i paid $59.99 + tax for street fighter 2 hyper edition (genesis version) the week it came out. i saw it in the weekly bradlees circular and marched over the the bank after school to take out $60... marched into bradless and asked for the game. the cashier rung it up and it was like $65.xx after tax. sh1t! so i ravaged through my pockets for change leftover from lunch and i was like $1.50 short... the old lady working the register felt sorry for me and took a buck outta her own pocket and told me not to worry about the change. what a nice lady 🙂
