Xbox 360 firmware released

Well, someone finally released to the public a working xbox 360 hacked firmware. Only works for the toshiba drive, but its new news anyway.

Well, I assume it works... same guy released the xbox1 firmware that allows copies of originals to boot in xbox1's wihtout a mod chip.

This is sort of old news and your heading is a bit misleading.

This firmware is for the optical drive itself, not for the xbox 360. I think the guys started with the original xbox, were able to hack the drive firmware to get it to play backups on disc. The same thing was then done to the 360. They posted a how-to instead of releasing the firmware to avoid legal hassle. I guess now someone has released the firmware itself.

Everyone who has followed the 360 scene will know what I mean by my topic for this thread. This is also far from old news. As previously, the firmware for the OPTICAL drive was never released, but as of about 2300 EST this firmware was released.

Ya, I just found this out. I dont think its old news...

How long do you think it will take Microsoft to fix this? Or do you think they could?

Microsoft will release a Xbox Live patch to overwrite firmware, and ship a firmware update with all new games. Useless.

Yup, that's how they "stopped" PSP homebrew. Just make people update if they want to play the newest games 🙁

Could they find it out...it is surely possible. The chips are software flashable, so obviously Microsoft would have the ability themselves to software read/write to the chip. Not to mention the fact that Xbox360 requires updates to play newer games. So microsoft could easily make changes to your console even if you are not connected to xbox live.

Question is whether or not this is easily detectable, and what kind of measures they are willing to take to thwart it. Since its a direct attack on xbox live users, and has no benefit to most users other than those looking to pirate games, they may just spend the money to take care of this issue.

Ya, thats what I was thinkin.

I dont think there will really be any way to hack the 360 if Microsoft keeps updating it.

Its a challenge a lot of people will work on. I hope they succeed.

Here is one thing to ponder though. Microsoft will not force patches on users, (as far as I have heard) you are prompted each time to install the update. Those people who are really looking to get around this could probably detach their flashed dvd rom drive while installing the update, and use a drive with an original bios.

Who knows what M$ is capable of doing. Your best bet is to probably not install an update unless you know some other fool tried it before you.
