I'm getting the message in the title when inserting game disc into my Xbox 360.
Is this an issue with the dvd drive or has anyone ever fixed this problem by replacing the dvd drive on a 360?

If so, What's the best Xbox 360 DVD rom replacement drive.

Thanks.

If it isn't a problem with you disk (like it being dirty, scratched, smudged, etc), then it is a problem with the drive.

Unfortunately, because of security protections, it is not easy to replace the DVD drive on a 360. Your best bet would be to contact MS support.

Thanks for the info. I'll give the cache clearing a try.

This is a launch date Xbox. So, I'm kinda SOL unless I can replace the drive myself.

replacing the drive won't be easy as a simple swap, you have to pull your original bios and key from factory drive and flash the other drive your swapping with.

MS will fix it for $99 but since it's a drive swap you might get the original launch motherboard back with just a new $10 DVD drive.

Buying a Falcon HDMI arcade unit for $199 and selling your old unit (without HD or accessions) on eBay for parts might be the best choice. You get a better console with a fresh 1 year other / 3 year RRoD warranty plus a new controller and some XBLA games.

See if you can get it to RROD before November?
Or are those '05 consoles not on the 3 year warranty thing?

I got that warning when I bought my 360 and tried to play the Ghost Recon game that came with it. It hasn't said that about any other disc since then, and I tried a different copy of GR and it worked.
