xbox 360 elite in production

Hah, looks like a Dell.

I hope the $479 price tag is just a lie they made up so people don't stop buying the old ones.

Ok, I can also paint my current 360 black or whatever the hell color I want.

This one comes with a 120 GB hard drive and (supposedly) HDMI output.

I just want them to let me toss in whatever 2.5" HDD I want, not be forced to buy another overpriced one when my 20gig is full. 🙁

That is one thing Sony really did right this time.

That doesn't make sense. 😕

EDIT: Misread your post. 🙁

With the problems they had with them, I'm a little apprehensive about buying a used 360 just like I was apprehensive about buying a used PS2. A price drop on the core and "premium" models would be nice though. 🙂

Why not? Would you buy a premium system today for $399 if you knew the elite system would be $399 in 4-6 weeks?

Why not? $479 puts them in PS3 territory, and I don't think it'd sell well at that price. If they announced the price at or near $399, everyone would stop buying the current systems and wait for a price drop. So I'm holding out hope (albeit slim) that they the $479 price that has been quoted is not the final price.

Edit:
An $80 price difference for a larger hard drive and an additional output just seems like a lot... Kind of like the $100 price jump for a larger hard drive and card readers on the PS3, which is why most people would rather get the 20 GB PS3. They could really put the hurt on Sony if they price this well.

True. Especially considering that the only thing you can put on the 360 hard drive is stuff you bought from the xbox marketplace. I'll pass on the surely overpriced hdd.

There is the possibility that it could be used as an IPTV set-top box (i.e. with AT&T's U-verse service) in the future.

Actually I think that's more than a possibility, because they've demoed that feature. (unless that video turned out to be fake)

Does this come with HD-DVD built-in or something?

No.

I am an idiot, I misread your post. 🙁

any decent IPTV service wouldn't need local storage. having to buffer before watching is a step backwards. U-verse doesn't need it (though, U-verse can only provide 1 HD channel at a time at the moment) and is fully digital streaming service (with proper channel surfing).

What about DVR? You need a hard drive for that. It's not all on-demand.

Also, can't you buy HD videos through Xbox Live? Or maybe I'm confusing that with the PS3's online service?

+ wifi, which is $100 through official means on the 360.

new paint on an old whore.

The 360 is still very powerful. Hell, the Wii is not powerful at all, but the fanboys seem to like it.
