Xbox 360 DVD Playback

FIXED THANKS

So...I got a 360. It works fine in 480p and 1080i with games, but when I try to play a DVD it always switches to 480p and the picture jitters up and down. Help?

360 outputs DVD only in 480p. Either fix the jitter in the picture (check TV settings?) or get a standalone player. I don't own one, so I can't say if there's any dashboard settings to tweak.

But it doesn't jitter during games in 480p...how could it be my TV?

Not sure whats causing your jittery picture, but the 360 I had didn't have any issues with DVD playback.

Are you certain its not the DVD?

Supposedly they're going to add DVD upconversion to the fall dashboard update, although that might have something to do with the HD-DVD player and/or a DVI/HDMI cable, since the movie studios aren't too keen on players that upconvert through component.

I've heard some people claim that the DVD player sucks, but it was fine in my experience. It wasn't quite up to the Samsung upconverting player that I had a few months before it, but I didn't really expect it to be.

Slightly different signal parameters?

My Xbox has a slightly off-center picture in 480p games, but in a 480p dashboard or any other resolution it's perfect. 😛
