Xbox 360 DVD Playback Problem

I'm not sure if this belongs somewhere else but......

I went to use my xbox 360 last night to play a movie (The Rock) and it was playing inside a small box. I then popped in a HD DVD and it played full screen.

I have it connected via a VGA cable (non HDMI xbox) to a 37" Westinghouse 1080p HDTV.

Here are the pictures

(Sorry about the quality of the pics they were taken from my iphone)

Wrong forum and if you don;t even know how to adjust the screen size then please give your Xbox to someone with a IQ higher then 50.

Thanks

Sounds like it's a non-anamorphic widescreen movie, meaning the black bars at the top and bottom are part of the movie. Does your TV have a Zoom mode?

On my HD-DVD player (not the 360), I have to change the output resolution to 480p instead of 720p/1080p for the dvd player to expand to fill the whole screen on non-anamorphic dvds.

i can't see your pics since the site is blocked from work.

however, if you move the left analog stick, you'll get the menu that shows up near the bottom of the screen. one of the menu items is "display" or something like that. one of the options should be able to help you. i forget what all the choices are but i think i had a similar issue to you where the picture only filled up a tiny bit of the entire screen and left black space on the sides and the top and bottom.

Your copy of the rock looks like this
http://www.amazon.com/Rock-Sea...&qid=1219263856&sr=8-1

and not this
http://www.amazon.com/Rock-Cri...&qid=1219263856&sr=8-4

right?

If it's the first one, you have yourself a non-anamorphic DVD. Try a different widescreen DVD (that says anamorphic or widescreen enhanced on the back) and see if that works.

Thats correct - its the version I have. I wanted to watch that copy as I dont want to go out and buy another copy. Someone recommended tapping on the control pad buttons to bring up different viewing options. I was using a harmony remote to watch the dvd on the 360 and didnt get an option for viewing modes - im about to try the control pad now.

Yep that worked - the menu bar popped up and I was able to select from zoom, letterbox, etc. I'm going to see if I can program my harmony remote to have that option box pop up.

Ok got it all squared away. thanks everyone. i was able to map some new buttons on the harmony remote that allows the display box to open on screen and then I can select the option and zoom if necessary.

Thanks everyone!!
