Unless you live under a rock you would have known that a lot of XBOX 360 owners were having issues with their console. I would have rented any game and open it just to verify that it is working properly. If I remember correctly didn't Microsoft recall a large batch of XBOX 360's recently? I would look into that.

I don't know about the recall, but I know all Xbox 360s before 06 had free warranty. This shows Microsoft knows that there is something wrong with the Xbox 360 before 06.

I thought that Microsoft extended the standard warranty for all 360s to 6 months, with ones being manufactured before January 2006 getting a full 1 year extension.

I traded my PS2 which had been sent back to Sony twice for repairs for a slim PS2 with some deal EB Games had. The Slim PS2 was dead out of box.

1. If it's still in the 90 day warranty period call M$ or 18004MYXBOX. Be ready to pay some $$ to get a refurb replacement. :Q

2. If out of warranty, check out xbox-scene.com for some help on diagnosing error codes on the ring of light.

3. OR, as a last resort, crack it open and fix it yourself. Most likely problem is overheating caused by application of crappy TIM on CPU/video chipset. This is evident if the Nyko cooler prolongs the use before it locks up. {This is what I did with my 360 when it was out of warranty and it froze up......have had no probs since fixing it.}

Keep your chin up pal. It's only $300 or so. ;)

Btw I got it for ~$300 so it isn't $400...

Anyways, back on topic, I don't think letting a Xbox 360 sit around for almost 3 months would kill it right?

Smart, but dumb at the same time. Anywhoo, call Microsoft back and tell em what's up.

This is what the OP should do, go to a store, buy another Xbox 360, open it up, switch consoles with your dead one and then return the XBOX you just bought.

See you in two weeks. Another post advocating fraud will be your last on our forums.

Can't get an error code as it just freezes without any ring lights etc.
Very doubtful it is overheating as I used the intercooler and put it on a flat surface. It is also pretty cold downstairs compared to upstairs.
I also heard that Xbox 360s get an extension to 6 months, but apparently mine doesn't as the MS customer support said it expired on 9/30/06. I had to fax in my receipt which showed the purchase on 7/18/06.
There is some issue about implied warranty, but I haven't read too many user experiences where they argued for implied warranty. I believe extended warranty can be purchased at any time according to several people, but the best bet is to get it while the Xbox 360 is working. I might just get the 1yr extended warranty from MS for $20 I think. If it lasts 1 year it should last for a bit more.
I won't call anybody else a dipshit as they didn't provoke me at all. The only childish reply was from that chris guy. All the other replies were just plain ol' ATOT bashing and haten' posts. I already got used to it. :)

As for the reply to goku's post, they probably track the serial numbers on the Xbox 360s. I wouldn't even attempt to do that.

I bought a new car once, had it delivered, and didn't drive it for 3 months. The damn thing didn't work and now the dealership won't take it back. :(

(This response is only here because you said you got used to it. :p)

Actually, yes it is childish. Have fun during your two weeks elsewhere.

One would expect you to have a response like this. I look forward to the day that you leave and never return.

Yea, i'm definitely getting it repaired. It should be free, but I don't know if MS will charge shipping costs.
I know that with the older Xbox 360 versions MS did a quick free shipping both ways and overnight shipping services.
I doubt they will give me free shipping on my part since they seem rather strict so far when I was on the phone with them.

I did get a Xbox on release date and didn't have a problem with that. I kinda did the exact same thing with the Xbox 360 where I played the best current games and sold/traded the Xbox. Later on I bought a used Xbox from EBGames and it turned out to be an early version of the Xbox which still works fine today except the DVD-rom has a small pausing problem after 1 hour or so of continuous use.
