ok so im trying to get my xbox on live, i plugged in my Ethernet cable from my router to my xbox 360, i try to connect and wen it checks my connection it gets to ip address, searches around for it, then about 30 secs later it says failed, so then i call belkin tech support they tell me to open up some ports, i do, still nothing, after about 30 mins of more troubleshooting with him, he advises me to cal microsoft, after 1 hour on hold from microshit, Indian guy cant help me and tells me to call my isp (bellsouth) so i call my isp and they said they cant do anything b/c my wired computers connect to the internet just fine. i have even connected my modem str8m to my 360 and it still fails at the ip address section, right now im rly pissed of as the only reason i got a 360 was b/c of live, and if i cant get live im just reselling this thing.!!

any one know what i can do?!!?!

If you are opening ports on the router it is much better to use a static IP address on the Xbox. Try configuring an IP address manually and see what happens.

Check, what is your PC's IP (you can see this from the status of the connection in Windows). If it's for instance 192.168.2.2, try giving your X360 192.168.2.3. Of course, if you have some other equipment connected to your router, you might have to use a larger IP like 192.168.2.5.

EDIT: If your computer works through the router, I don't think that there are any problems with your ISP and MAC-addresses. Internet "sees" only the router, and the router delivers all the info to the PCs etc. connected to it.
i typed in the 192.168.2.5 into the 360 with the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and gateway os 192.168.2.1 and still failing the ip test thingy 🙁

please help i wanna keep my 360!

wow well, i hooked up my original xbox to live just for kicks, and yes right away it found my connection and without a hassle connected to live.

perhaps its the xbox 360 itself???

If the old xbox works just fine, and you've replace with a good store bought cable then it may be the 360.

Next steps would be to get a hub and install this between the router/360 and then run a ethereal trace on the communication. That would nail exactly what your problem is.
