xbox 360 compatible systems`

I'm relatively new to xbox gaming. I would like to build my own gaming PC instead of being forced to buy the 360. The questions:

Can all of the necessary hardware needed to play 360 games be purchased for this project through conventional methods?

If the answer to the above question is no, where can I get games for a home built gaming pc? Specifically Halo.

I havent been able to track down the answers to these questions. Thanks in advance.

The answer is no, and you can get Halo for $20 new just about anywhere, including Wal-mart. Halo2 hasn't been ported to PC, yet.

The Xbox 360 is completely different than a Windows PC, you can not build your own Xbox 360 or a system that will play games meant for an Xbox 360. You can however, play a lot of games on a decent Windows gaming PC. Some of these games are the same titles as those for Xbox and Xbox 360, but they are specifically designed to run on Windows. There are also a lot of really good games made only for the PC that you can not get for the Xbox. You can purchase these games pretty much at any major computer/electronics store and many department stores. I'm pretty sure that CompUSA and Target have Halo for PC. That being said, Halo was a really good first person shooter for Xbox becasue for a long time it was the only good FPS for Xbox, but in terms of FPS games overall it ranks average in my opinion.

I believe Halo 2 is slated to come out for PC sometime, but for Vista only. I'm not sure if Microsoft will follow up on this, but they should, considering it came from their own mouths.

BTW, Halo PC sucked. Halo XB rocked, the PC port sucked.

Seems like the answer I seek is simple. Build a gaming PC with Dual OS capacity to handle Vista so that I can play Halo 2 and eventually Halo 3 PLUS all of the games built for the PC Windows OS ( I just looked at a list of PC games; quite a few) and subsequently Vista.

I appreciate all of the input to the original question and the rapid responses.

Vista will be able to play all the current games designed for Windows XP. Install Windows XP now, upgrade to Vista when it comes out or when you feel like getting it. You could install the beta version now if you wanted.

When you're ready to build, post a thread about the parts you've picked out in the general hardware forum and people will help you build a vista-capable PC. Be aware that current video cards cannot support DirectX10, something that Vista only games will need.
