Xbox 360 backwards compatibility issue

I just tried to play Sid Meier's Pirates (an original XBox game) on my 360, and it gave me the "This XBox originals game is not supported" message. Thing is, I was sure I'd played it on there before. . .

I have an older hard disk laying around that hasn't got all the latest dashboard updates, so I swapped back to it, and the game played without issue. So. . . what's up with that? Is this a bug, a deliberate removal? Lucky I still have the old drive :/

I doubt it's deliberate, more just them not supporting backwards compatibility or even caring if they work anymore.

If your new drive isn't from Microsoft it likely won't have the special partition need for backwards compatibility.

It's all official Microsoft hardware. I notice the game is purchaseable via XBox live as an XBox Original title. . . sorry, having cynical thoughts.

Apparently Sid Meier's Pirates! was temporarily removed from the backwards compatibility list at some point. Maybe it's your new harddrive that's out of date, or perhaps they never added the PAL version back to the list.
