Xbox 360 as Media Center Extender

A while ago I linked my Xbox 360 with my laptop which runs Windows XP Media Center Edition. I went through the whole process where the Xbox 360 displays an 8-digit code that, when entered into the laptop, linked the two for use.

Now I have a desktop which runs Windows Vista Ultimate. I'd like to link the Xbox 360 to this desktop (I'm fine if it must first be unlinked from the laptop, but I don't know how to do that). Everything I read mentions that the Xbox 360 will display the 8-digit code as soon as you run Media Center - but it doesn't.

How the heck do I find/reset my Xbox 360's 8-digit Media Center code so that I can link the Xbox 360 to my Vista desktop as a Media Center Extender?

Your help is appreciated!

I just turned on my 360 to check. Under "My xbox" i went to Media center, I had to hit continue, then it displayed the code that you need. What are you getting?

You need to disable/remove the old MC connection on the xbox..

I seem to remember having to do something similar after a server refresh. It will never post the code again otherwise as it assumes you are still using the XP system.

I use TVersity & Windows Media Player to stream to my 360. I always have both connections enabled as no solution is completely reliable, or can play every type of video format.

There is another application called 'Windows Media Connect' which is a very small Microsoft app that connects various devices to your Desktop/Laptop. Works pretty good, but stopped for me. It's strange though, all of these applications stop working after about 6 months of use, so I am always switching between them. TVersity is my favorite though.

Ok. Would someone please explain how to disable/remove my XP laptop's Media Center connection? I couldn't (easily) recognize any way to do this from either the XP laptop or the Xbox 360.

Please let me know!

In the settings area there should be a listing like "computer" (I think) select that and select "disconnect". Anyway, that's the gist of it...just look around the various console system settings.
