Does VGA support hi definition is my main question. I am thinking about buying a 22" Samsung monitor to play XBOX 360 on (in my dorm room).

My other question is... what makes composite worse than component? I know component splits video in RGB, but how does that make it look better? Where does s-video come into play? And what makes HDMI different from component?

Yes, the VGA cable supports high definition. I myself run my 360 on my 24" Gateway via VGA cable at 1080p.

If you're buying a 22" monitor just for your 360 then I say, dont. The problem is that the XBOX is not capable of outputting 1680x1050. You're going to have to use 1360x768 and your 22" TN display will not do 1:1 pixel mapping. You're going to be looking at a stretched, grainy, ugly mess. I used my Xbox 360 via VGA cable with my 20.1" 2007wfp (S-IPS) and hated it. It's actually the main reason I spent $700 on this 24" LCD.

Composite is worse than component because composite is limited to a resolution of 480i. Component is HD capable all the way up to 1080p.

S-Video is also limited to 480i, but offers a little better image quality than composite.

HDMI is different than component because it carries a digital signal, the same digital signal carried by DVI, but with sound. S-Video, composite, component and VGA are all analog.

EDIT: Fixed some misatkes :)

Fixed a couple things that I'll chalk up to being tired.

Careless mistakes, I really should read my posts before clicking the button.

Thanks for not jumping up my butt about it!
