XBOX 360 and USB problem/questions ...

So I purchased a powered hub and an extension cable (30 feet) to go from my rack to a midpoint in the room so we can hook up RB drums and a mic.

Well it doesn't work with the hub or the extension in the mix at all.

If I use a couple of plain generic extensions (about 6 foot each) they work fine with the drums. I only have 2 extensions in the house but I can put both on the end of the drums or the mic and they work fine.

Anyone have a suggestion on a hub and an extension that can go the distance I need? Is there a powered USB extension around?

TIA

Greg

I think it has to be a self-powered USB hub...like one you plug into an outlet. I don't believe the 360 has powered USB ports. I know that the USB hub that came with Rock Band has a cord to plug it into a wall outlet.

Ok well I can certainly get one that is powered then as long as it doesn't need to be a specific brand or anything silly like that

No, no specific brand. Though I need to say, the reason why it has to be powered is because of the draw multiple devices can put on it. If the USB ports weren't self-powered as described above, the wireless adapter would need a power plug 😉

Gotcha and makes sense.

I was thinking along the same lines -- mostly from a safety issue (ie wouldn't want to fry the 360 port by driving to much off of it).

Thanks

No, it definitely has power going to the USB ports, because otherwise the play and charge cable wouldn't work.

Don't know how much power goes to them or how well an unpowered hub would work, but it might. But I'd get a powered hub just to be safe. They're more useful anyway.

i use one from dealextreme, i only have 1 controller in it and it works. doesn't have to be USB2.0 neither, get a 5 dollar cheapo first.

This.

The usb hub that came with my rockband 1 set had the power cord. I never actually tried it without the power hooked up. I imagine it would be fine for one thing, but it might not be able to power multiple devices without the seperate power.
