Xbox 360 and Triple core

What was the point of the triple core in the xbox 360 if all games are just using one now. How much will the other 3 cores help the game graphically, etc.

Also what portion of the ATI chip are they using so far. 100% power?

It gives them headroom for improvement later.

Not matter how much developers are b!tching about it and the PS3 now, I can almost bet they're going to be glad for the extra cores later. Considering multicore is just the natural progression, programmers would have to code for them sooner or later. The nature of consoles would make it easier to work with I would think than on a PC, as its a closed software environment and you don't have to worry about a lot of extra stuff that you would on a PC.

I also see their big HD push as the same thing. Most people don't have HDTVs right now. So when they start playing the 360 it'll look good, but then later when they do get an HDTV then it'll be like a free boost to the graphics (which was always there, but most people won't have seen it).

Above all though, who cares how many cores/threads/GPUs/RAM it has. As long as the games are good, look good, sound good, but most of all play good then it doesn't matter.

Personally, I find it incredible that the games are impressive as they are, yet there is so much system power left untapped.

And using the muliple cores will help quite a bit, once the developers really sink their teeth into them. Picture the first core handling most of the gameplay, while the second one is calculating the AI, and the third is calculating the physics... Or the lighting, or dynamic environments, or whatever.

I believe the difference between first gen games compared to the games a couple of years from now is going to be unrivaled from previous generations. I'm VERY optimistic for the future of these consoles.

xenos is supposed to have a dedicated phyiscs processor in it, so it should be better at physics than any one of the 3 cores.

Ah, very nice. I hadn't heard that.

Even still, my (now hypothetical) example serves the point. 🙂

I like how games for consoles keep pushing developers to the max. In the PC world the answer is always to throw more hardware at everything to make it run better instead of better coding tactics.

Nope, just makes you guys much too anal. 😛

I've not been to prison yet, so that's impossible

Supposedly Dead or Alive 4 uses more than 1 core. The developers were originally Sega Saturn developers, which consequently was a multi-core system.
