xBOX 360 AND gta 4 DISC

I was playing my 360 and GTA 4 today and when I put the GTA4 disc in, it was perfect condition. Mid way, the console said it couldn't read the disc and when I took it out, there were 4 deep circular scratches on the disc.
What should I do.

Do you have a release Xbox 360? If it is, that might be your problem. You need to call MS and tell them about it, I think they make you send in your copy of GTA4 and they send you a credit to purchase a new copy. Don't know if it really works, but always worth it to try.

Sounds like its RMA your 360 time for you. I've heard of this problem with other people with various other discs. There are some fixes possibly for the system but frankly if its in warranty you may just want to get it replaced.

If it's the one with HDMI out, and it did that to your disc, you got yourself a bad egg. RMA it and tell them that it scratched up your disc. See if the rep would get your console replaced/fix and replace your game.

How cheap/bad is the DVD-ROM that it's SCRATCHING discs and that deep?

What? It's a mechanical failure, it happens. I'm not sure how exactly it happens but all it takes is the piece that picks up the disc to fail while it's spinning and your disc is destroyed.

I had a 360 that ate Gears of War disks the same way, multiple disks while every other game I owned at the time worked fine. MS replaced the console, and said they needed $20 from me to replace each disk, which I thought was absurd, so I just took them them to a local game shop which buffed out the scratches for $4 instead. After some complaining. MS did give me my pick of two of a limited selection of games, Kameo and Viva Piniata being the ones I picked and which I promptly sold.

I had this issue with one of my 360s (the older rev one) when I had it standing vertically. I could actually hear the disc whacking around. Thankfully no damage was done to any discs that made them unreadable but I have since kept it horizontal. Just to test I put in a crappy audio cd and gently tipped the console slightly and bam, disc got scratched up.

Not surprised that happened, consoles are suppose the stay stationary. Maybe you should tell R&D to put in anti-shock into their next line of consoles. But seriously, standing your Xbox isn't a good idea. I did that with mine and some games didn't run well or during load times it would freeze and say the disc is dirty and can't be read.
