XBox 360 and AOpen 19" LCD

I'd like to use my shiny new 19" AOpen LCD for a high def display, should I purchase an XBox 360. However, I can't seem to make it display a 720 horizontal line resolution. I can Force 720p using the ATI drivers, but the image is stretched to fill the screen. Is this a bad sign? The monitor will letterbox down to 1152x864, but the next resolution down, 1280x720, is stretched to fill. Similarly, the screen will letter box on the sides on certian resolution modes.

I can't tell if this is a signal problem, or the monitor is hardwired to force-fill horizontal resolutions below 864 pixels. Has anyone had success with attaching a computer LCD monitor to some similar 720p source?
